? to Sox fans in the know. I noticed Hermanson got the save tonight. Did Ozzie make the switch permanant or is this just a one time deal?

Thanks in advance

from rotoworld

Dustin Hermanson was picked over Shingo Takatsu to get the save opportunity tonight against the Indians and pitched a scoreless 10th inning to protect a one-run lead.
Travis Hafner delivered a two-out double, but Hermanson retired the other three hitters he faced. Takatsu apparently will continue to get save opportunities versus every team but the Indians, but that could change at some point, making Hermanson worth owning in most leagues.

They will be using Hermanson and Marte on occasion. Shingo main guy still as of now, but its case by case.

I think the only time it really worked was 1990 Reds with the Nasty Boys.

I think you nailed it on the head....although Myers got a majority of the save opprotunities. Dibble had I believe 11 saves that year to Myers 35-36.

I think Norm Charlton had a few saves as well. Other then that, shared closer duties has never worked. Kind of like playing 2 QBs, it never works.

The closer is a recent phenomenon of the last 30 years or so. The introduction of the save stat introduced it, and baseball has been wedded to the idea ever since. More and more, baseball execs are beginning to question the utility of the current closer system, and there are many teams with crappy closers that would benefit from scrapping the idea altogether.

Another stupid cub fan in THE ROOK with his "you gotta love it on the north side" comment. Why is that Rook? Are the White Sox in the NL Central now?

I didn't realize LaTroy Hawkins and the crap coming out of your bullpen was so dominant in save situations.

The tribe knocked Shingo around pretty good at the Cell and also did so last year. Hermanson closed pretty much all year for the Giants last year. I thought it was a good move in a sport situation.
