to me it doesnt look like the guy did ANYTHING to Sheffield.....am I missing something?

if he swung at him then he is a piece of chit, it just doesnt look to me like he was tryng to do anything......if he was, then i am wrong, and he is scum....

I don't think he was going for Sheff intentionally, but he definitely interfered with the game. Auto ejection....pretty smooth by Sheff to push & throw back to the cutoff guy in one motion

You totally missed it. Even the Boston tv announcers are all over that jackass who took a swipe at Sheffield and no one hates Sheffield more then I.

I'm not saying what the fan did was outrageous, but you gotta remember who is playing and where,,,any little incident is going to be blown out of proportion...Who knows maybe they have been trashing him all night....Sheffield had every right to defend himself, he was on his playing surface.

the fan waved at the ball, trying to get it, and accidently hit shefield on the hat, and he goes after him.....pretty pathetic, he is suppose to be a professional, they guy was trying to get a foul ball

BS its the fans reponsibility to realize what he's doing....I honestly believe the guy just wasn't paying attn,,,, How he didn't see Sheffield I have no idea....

I can't even believe people are saying the fan did nothing wrong. I think reading a couple of these responses stunned me more then the actual play itself. This wasn't even close but oh well...

It was a slight bump, it's not like he attacked Shefield.

first off, the ball wasnt a foul ball, it was in play and how many times are fans told to NOT TOUCH THE BALL OR GO FOR THE BALL WHEN IT IS IN FAIR PLAY..... put yourself in the situation, your in a HEATED rivals ballpark and in a heated game, a fan reaches over and clips you in the side of the head...i dont think it was intentional but the sh!t that has gone on in when these teams play.. cmon... you know dam well that you would have reacted the same way, sheff could have easily jumped in the stands and fvcked that guy up but he restrained himself, yes his initial reaction was to react to getting hit but then he quickly threw the ball back in and stayed close to the fan until security came over and handled the problem.... sheff was not at fault there, like they said on tv, the fan was removed, excellent job by boston security

Yeah he got carried away but this isn't 1985...

It was a reaction, Sheffield is trying to locate the ball and feels a guy slap his face come on? He defended himself , he reacted , he didn't do anything else...He had no idea what the guys intention was he was looking for the ball and feels someone swipe his face....

I remember when SARS was affecting Toronto, and all the shows talked about "God forbid, a player catching SARS"

Everytime I heard that, I felt like yelling, "So is it ok for ANYBODY ELSE to catch SARS, but we have to worry about a player?????"

Valid point, but is there a need to attack a fan? Com'on, especially in a heated rival like this game......it could have turned into another IND/DET game, but 100 times worse.

Very simple...

The fan was trying to "swat" or "shoo" the ball and he ended up clipping Sheff in the mouth....

Sheff had his head down and did not see what was going on and felt the fan was trying to hit him intentionally....I don't blame either really....This happens EVERY GAME with fans....just most of the time players don't get HIT because of it.....There were 40 other fans hanging over the edge trying to do the same thing...

It was a total accident and 95% of the people who goto the game try to get the ball...WHETHER IT IS FAIR BALL OR FOUL...IT JUST HAPPENS....EVERY.....GAME....

Nobody is at fault...just a bad case of circumstances.
