Seattle +1.00 over CHICAGO
Forget about last season for the Mariner’s, they already have and now they’re back to doing what they’re used to doing. Being competitive and winning games is what we’re talking about. The Mariners went 0-6 last year at the new Comiskey Park and will surely be aware of that coming into this game. They’ve won three in a row, all on the road and they’ll send Joel Pineiro to the mound to make his season debut. Pineiro was slated to be the Mariners' opening day starter out of spring training before being slowed by right shoulder stiffness. Pineiro allowed one run and five hits against Fresno in seven sharp innings, striking out six without a walk. Like the Mariners, Pineiro, too, had an off year but don’t be fooled by that. The man can flat out pitch with an outstanding slider and curve. He also features an above average fastball that he uses effectively to set up his other pitches. In five years of major leaguer service, the opposition has hit just .248 against him. Jon Garland went six shaky innings in his season debut against the Twins. He allowed 10 hits and was extremely fortunate to allow just three runs. The ball was jumping off the Twins bats. Garland has a solid sinking fastball in the low-90s but has been unable to complement it with another plus pitch. His curveball can be a good pitch, but he does not command it well enough. He does not do a good job of changing speeds and winds up in too many hitters' count, which helps explains how a sinkerballer could give up the fourth-most home runs in the AL. Big advantage on the mound for the Mariner’s here and no advantage anywhere for the White Sox works for us. Play: Seattle +1.00 (Risking 1.5 units).

San Francisco +1.00 over COLORADO<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Glad to be playing against the Rockies without having to give away anything and until this host shows us something different we’ll keep playing against them. Jamie Wright will go for the 1-7 Rockies and Wright pitching at Coors Field can’t be a pretty sight. He’s got a career ERA of over five and he’s walked (582) almost as many batters as he’s struck out (604). Walking hitters in this park is suicide and it’s just not possible for Wright to have success at home with the way he pitches. Strike one is still the best pitch in baseball but Jamie Wright insists on constantly falling behind in the count. He was released by Kansas City in July of 2004 and when the Royals release you it might be time to think about another career. He gives up tons of hits and walks and in 190 career starts Wright has 53 wins and 72 losses. Noah Lowry is a great looking lefty that has a great future. He’s 6-0 in his major league career and the opposition has hit just .243 against him. Lastly, the Rockies are 0-3 against lefties, 1-7 overall, and have a chucker going tonight that couldn’t crack the starting rotation on any other team in the major’s. Play: San Francisco +1.00 (Risking 1.5 units).
