Am I the only one still using Windows 98se here? I'm basically happy with it, but am I really missing something of great importance by not having XP?

not unless you need a faster system with stronger networking, or if you need wireless printing or networking, or need better drivers for your system, or better security for your hard drive, (NTFS), better security for your folders on the hard drive, or faster Internet throughput speed. Plus XP supports 256 bit true color and automatic install of devices.

With that said, if you're an average 'home PC user', you're probably not missing a thing.

Thank you bilbal. I guess the only issues you mentioned that might concern me are those dealing with "security". My computer runs smoothly (knock on wood).

Is XP more secure than 98se? By that I mean, when I do online banking would I be safer with XP; or when I make an online purchase using a credit card, would I be safer with XP?

I hate to spend the money for a new computer, because I'm not going to try to upgrade to XP with this one.

Internal security is much better with XP, meaning you can provide access and secure your files better than you could with 98.

But for online security, you need at least 128-bit encryption. If you click on Internet Explorer's "Help" and then "About Internet Explorer", you should see a cipher strength of 128-bit. If you see 64 bit you need to upgrade your Internet Explorer. You should also run "Tools, Windows Update" at least once a week and pull down anything flagged as critical. If you need to reboot, do that and then run Windows Update again until there are no critical patches left.

Lastly, whenever you see an "https" instead of "http" (you'll see https at bank sites, credit card sites, etc) make sure you see a little lock in the botom right hand side of your window, this way you know the connection is secured/encrypted. If you hover over it, it should say "SSL Secured 128 bit." If you double click on that, it will show you the certificate.

Hope this helps!
