PITTSBURGH +1.00 over Chicago (1:35 PM)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Mark Redman does not overpower anyone, instead he throws strikes, changes speeds with the best of them and when he’s hitting the corners like he has in his two starts this year, he’s flat out dominating. He’s allowed just one walk, two runs and nine hits in 12 innings of work and he’s struck out eight. The opposition is hitting .225 against him and he comes in with a 2-0 record and a 1.50 ERA. He’s also a lefty and the Cubs are 0-2 against southpaws. Greg Maddux is struggling big time as his major league career winds down. In two starts he’s yet to make it past the fifth inning and in those two starts the opposition is hitting .333 against him. He’s surrendered nine runs in 10 innings and pitching 4191 innings over 19 years has got to take its toll eventually. That time has come for Maddux and he’ll never be the pitcher that he used to be. We know we’re going to see the Cubs bullpen and that means Dusty Baker will be forced into making decisions that he’s not capable of making. Baker should’ve stayed in Frisco where nobody cared or noticed just how incompetent he was. Lastly, this line was designed to attract Cubs money because of both their popularity and Maddux’s popularity and the books are looking for all the Cub money they can find. Don’t bite. Play: Pittsburgh +1.00 (Risking 1.5 units).<o:p></o:p>

Toronto +1.08 over TEXAS (2:05 PM)<o:p></o:p>

The Jays have completely shut down this offensive juggernaut for three games allowing the Rangers to score just five runs in the three games thus far. Josh Towers has been brilliant in his two starts and surely the Jays have the upper hand on the mound today. Towers has allowed just two earned runs in his two starts and over that span, covering 12.2 innings, he’s walked just one guy. Chris Young has yet to make it out of the fourth inning in his two starts, allowing 14 hits in 7.1 innings, walking five batters and giving up 10 earned runs. The Jays are winning despite Vernon Wells and Cory Koskie hitting .167 and .205 respectively. It’s only a matter of time until those two get it going and they couldn’t have chosen a better pitcher to get off the mattress against. Rangers are going to need to score a bunch today and even if they do, there’s still a very good chance that it won’t be more than the Jays. Play: Toronto +1.08 (Risking 1.5 units).
