No doubt he thinks he's the end all to everything...he's one of those guys that imposes his will on you, his way or no way...its effective but its annoying....

I would like to see him shoot a basketball, I hope he can atleast play a little he sure as hell acts like he was a playa.

very similar to Jim Rome actually.

If he is ESPN replacement for Dr. Jack Ramsey, they have failed. Loud mouth, but he does seem to know when players are going to be traded.

He has zero insight. I don't like his, absolutely, guarantee you this will happen ramblings. And then he is proved wrong. I have to turn the channel when his mug appears on camera.

What's the deal with this guy:icon_conf

He is another local beat writer who got on TV and let it get to his head. He knows he is important so he talks louder than everyone else. He wants to be in the NBA so he comes up with this jive ass attitude he must think gives him credibility, maybe it does when he is sucking up to his NBA pals, but listening to his love affair of A.I. and T.O. and anything Philadelphia he sounds more like a wannabe who thinks he is part of the story, not the reporter

At the end of the day he is just a loud mouth who should go back to writing his newspaper column and save the assault on our ears.

he can't speak withouut repeating himself and using worn out cliches , I heard him tonight talking (YELLING) about NBA playoffs - he said 'at the end of the day' about 6 times and then the normal 'AI should be considered for MVP' and 'Cleveland is an embarassment' the rest of the time.

When you read his columns, sometimes he has good points, but I can't pick them out on TV when he is screaming at the camera and telling everyone how stupid they are.

I think he posts here as Casinoman - they have the same style

Stephen A. Smith is a poster boy for the current era of Shout TV. It used to be that to succeed in journalism or broadcasting, one had to write well and/or speak well. Smith's rise to prominence at ESPN is a sign of how far journalism quality has fallen at that network. Smith may have solid thoughts and opinions and may "tell it like it is", but he has minimal journalism and broadcasting skills and thus, has no business being in that job. Smith has poor command of the English language. He writes poorly, speaks poorly and shouts "street" rather than speaks English. I guess ESPN feels it has to compete with the shout shows on the news networks by hiring rubes like this. I feel sorry for quality journalists like Dan Patrick and Bob Ley who are masters of their craft, but are now being surrounded by shout merchants like Smith. Like most trends in the television industry, this trend toward Shout TV will too pass.

I like him. Very entertaining, although I could see where some wouldn't like him. Sort of like Jim Rome.

Its not that I don't like him, I find him controversial and part of his persona is an act IMO....he has found a niche with his shout at everyone style, just seems funny sometimes.

He is even worse in the Philly media than just what he does for ESPN. The way he talks about people is nothing short of disrespectful. If he wasn't so obviously overdoing it for effect you would think the guy is the type that would follow you around if he didn't like you.

He was never meant for that. He was brought in to be loud and outspoken competition for Barkley on TNT.
