New York Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield is expected to meet with Major League Baseball officials on Monday to discuss his role in Thursday night's altercation with a fan at Fenway Park, the New York Daily News reported.

The Yankees and Sheffield's agent, Rufus Williams, maintain that Sheffield will not be suspended, although MLB's head of discipline Bob Watson will be attending the meeting.

"He did nothing wrong," Williams told the paper in a phone interview. "We'll meet with them early next week and see what happens from there."

Sheffield also could be fined for the incident, but Williams said his client would appeal any punishment. Sheffield wouldn't get into anything related to the situation Saturday, saying several times that he'd "prefer not to comment" on it.

Boston Police do not plan on taking any action over the incident, but Sheffield could press charges, The New York Times reported.

"It's up to Sheffield; if he wants to press charges, he is free to do so," Officer Mike McCarthy, a spokesman for the Boston Police Department, told the paper Saturday. "But no police report has been filed, and no action has been taken at this time."

Asked if the police considered the case closed, McCarthy said, "It was never open, actually."

The Red Sox said that revoking the fan's season tickets is a possibility and a resolution will likely come in a couple of days.

The confrontation came in Boston's 8-5 win over New York on Thursday night while Sheffield was fielding Jason Varitek's two-run triple in front of the 3-foot high barrier. The fan reached over the wall, and Sheffield said he was hit in the face.

Sheffield shoved the fan before throwing the ball back to the infield. He then moved toward the fan before a security guard got between them. The fan was ejected from the ballpark but not arrested.

I don't think so either. I also, think the fan learned his lesson. Just drop it.
