Doug- I have never owned a Dell, but I had a problem w/ a gateway desktop and did not have the restore disks. I called gateway and was able to get the disk I needed (took 4 months) and also had to buy Windows xp. It is worling great now. Maybe you can call your manufactuar and save some money.

I could probably get it that way, but the PC was built for me. I'm not going to wait months for it. The operating system is expensive. Can I integrate a laptop into my malfunctioning desk top and expect it to work properly, guess I'd need a router.

I've had a top of the line dell for bout 6months and love it. Just check the components and you should be fine. Make sure that they are not just putting cheap components inside. Dell's probably not any better or any worse than others.

ive got 6 dell products.

no jokes. six.

hand held axim (pocket pc)
dell dj (digital jukebox)
dell 400sc (2)
dell dimension D333 (had for 6, yes six years)
inspirion 8600 laptop

im an avid fan, and love their products - when you get a new one, just remember to reformat it, reinstall the OS and go from there.

they are quality machines, if you know wha tto do with them. just maybe add some memory and you are set. good luck. ive had no regrets with them, i would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Thanks, sounds better. The specs should matter more than the brand name .

ive found their customer support to great.

they make a solid product. their cases are great - not shoddy at all. they send out replacement parts very fast - etc - etc.

they also sell the best parts for the price.

Hint*

look to buy towards the end of each quarter - dell has to meet its quota, and they usually put out very large coupons.

i got my laptop with a 750 off 1500 dollar coupon.

My current computer for over a year now is a Dell and no problems at all.
Last one was a Gateway and I had problems on a consistent basis.......

Dude buy a Dell and buy a problem while getting screwed in the process.

By an IBM or HP from a local Dealer. Same basic price and features better service.

better service?! hahahaha. dont they offer m-f service? who the heck would want 24/h 7/w service!?? nobody!!

yea buy an IBM, they just got out of the computer market. HP is currently "reogranizing" their stance on selling products.

why? because dell owns the market. HPs are horribly built - they are compaq's in sheep's clothing.

I have a Dell Desktop. Had it for about 3 years I guess. It has been fine for me. I think highly of their tech support. The other is a Packard Bell I bought in 1998. It is still kicking ok as well. Most problems are a result of operator error.
