to pass time during rain delay....

for those who havent read it, from mlb.com.....

Greg Maddux will try again for win No. 306 -- which also would be his first of the year.

Maddux will kick off a six-game homestand on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. On Monday, the Cincinnati Reds come to Wrigley Field for a three-game series.

The Cubs went 4-3 on this road trip against the Pirates, Reds and Cardinals, part of a 19-game stretch against NL Central teams.

Maddux has a lifetime record of 24-13 and a 2.51 ERA against the Pirates. He faced them on April 17 and did not get a decision, giving up two runs on five hits over six innings. This will be his second start at home.

Kerry Wood will start on Saturday and Mark Prior on Sunday for the Cubs. The three Cubs pitchers could use a little more offensive support. Chicago has struggled to score runs lately.

Expect to see a few new lineups for the Cubs, who have to make some adjustments now that both Todd Walker and Nomar Garciaparra are on the disabled list. Garciaparra has a torn muscle in his groin, and will be out at least two months, maybe more. He has to decide whether he's going to undergo surgery or not. Walker has a sprained left knee, injured April 10.

Please note Friday's game starts at 2:20 p.m. CT. Some of the Cubs' home Friday games have switched to 1:20 p.m. CT starts, part of the team's deal with the city of Chicago.

Pitching matchup
PIT: LHP Mark Redman
• 1-1, 2.33 ERA in 2005
• 0-1, 3.68 ERA in 2005 vs. CHC

CHC: RHP Greg Maddux
• 0-1, 5.63 ERA in 2005
• 0-0, 3.00 ERA in 2005 vs. PIT

Player to watch
Derrek Lee had a three-hit game against the Pirates on April 17, and is still Mr. April, batting .417 this month.

Quotable
"That's a huge loss for us. Regardless of what he was hitting, any time you lose a guy like that, it's huge. Hopefully, somebody will take the opportunity and play well while he's out. The nice thing is, we haven't played our best baseball and we're sitting here 8-8 and there's plenty of the season left and it's still really early. We have to play some good baseball at home." -- Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, on the loss of Garciaparra

THANKS for passing along the info RPM, lines is still open at most all books (allthough 5 inn line closed at bodog), STILL TIME TO HOP ON BOARD. IT'S COLD NASTY AND A TERRIBLE DAY FOR BASEBALL IN CHICAGO.

THIS IS WHY I LEFT THAT MISERABLE TOWN. I owned a jeep wrangler back in my early 20's the nice days to drive it all open were few and far between up there.

i wonder if the pitchers had started loosening up? if they did, and now they have to sit back down and wait, under might not be such a good way to go.

what do you guys think?

would be an interestin stat to have over half hour rain delay and final total outcome. Rain affects a baseball game on both sides sometimes to the over and sometimes to the under.

BUT MY BELEIF IS THAT COLD RAIN EQUALS UNDER, just my opinion though.

Top 10 Things to Do During a Wrigley Rain Delay

It’s a beautiful day in Chicago. Let’s play two! No really,. Have you ever been stuck at Wrigley Field, waiting for a rain delay to end? So have we. It’s no fun. So, as a public service, here’s a list of the top 10 things to do during a Wrigley rain delay:

10. Fill out 5,462,673 All-Star ballots, each with a write-in vote for Neifi Perez.

9. Contemplate how you could have possibly taken Nomar Garciaparra and his dirty .161 average in the second round of your fantasy draft.

8. Debate who would win in a street fight: Ronnie Woo Woo or Chug-Chug the Comeback Clown.

vs.
chugchug3

7. Go into the men’s bathroom, pull your pants down and yell, “I’m Mark McGwire! Who wants to inject me with steroids?” Run like hell.

6. Ask the vendors at the concession stand if they pull their ownpork, then laugh uncontrollably.

5. Find an usher in one of the designated smoking areas and ask, “Mind if I do a J?”

4. Run onto the field and attack anybody in sight. (Hey, the Sox have rain delays too)

3. Learn Latin. Figure out what the hell it says on the right field rooftop.

2. Count up just how many losses the Cubs have had since last winning the World Series. The answer is 8,647. (OK, I made that up)

1. Order a round of Old Styles. Drink. Repeat.

The Anti Thread

LMAO!!!!!

And it was written: low, the clouds will come in with heavy winds, blowing IN. Much rain will fall and there will be wailing and anxiousness. Men will turn upon each other while fearing for their action wager. Bears and Brigands will run lose upon the fields swinging sticks and throwing things at each other after the great sheets have been removed. This will be the time. This will be the beginning of the dark hours. These things will be known to those with ears and those that have eyes. Look for the sign: the anti-thread. Once the anti-thread is in place, let those that have heard prepare themselves. It will be time.
