That's what's happening to me right now. I ran Spy Sweeper to get rid of some Adware, reset my computer when prompted, and afterwards could not connect to the internet at all. After a call-up to my ISP and some extensive tinkering with my IE settings, I can now browse using IE and check emails, but that's it.

Can't browse using anything else (i.e. Firefox), or use any programs that connects to the internet (i.e. FTP, Apps with online update feature, even something simple as Online Checkers). Prior to this event everything ran perfectly. Anything like this ever happen to anyone else?:icon_conf

Running antispy software will help you a lot but as u know with goes into registry keys and other high priority places in your computer, sometimes something can get fv$c%k. So when running them remember to back up you registry

Spysweeper: In January, I went to update program just to see if I had the latest version and that's when I began having trouble with Spysweeper freezing computer. Finally to make a long story short, a Spysweeper Rep. told me that if it was not for Internet Explorer; I would not need a spy program as that's where most of the problems are. Since I downloaded Firefox, I don't have any problems, but I don't check for the latest version of the Spysweeper program. I just download the definations updated. When supscription is up in Sept.---I won't be using Spysweeper any longer.

Sounds more like a firewall screw up. Zone Alarm or Norton can pretty much prevent everything from connecting if you don't set it up right.

Thanks ppl. I ended up reinstalling XP and things are fine now. I think it might have been either a registry/firewall problem as I did have zonealarm installed at the time of the incident. Planning to switch over to Firefox entirely while I'm at it.
