Is he the next premier back for Indy?

Short and stocky. More of a fullback. Hope Indy opens up more and uses the xtra blocker instead of the balanced attack.

I am not paticularly impressed with it. The fact they still have no replacements for Morris or for that fact Washington from ly and still no bookend for Freeney or any size at DT, I would say this is a below average draft that accomplished very little except getting underrated corner in Jackson who if he left school ly would have been top 10 pick. Dungy will have to work magic again but it looks like they will fall short once again!

general..................they did the correct thing imo......they drafted for defense.....

Kojak....................first three defensive players were tops in thier respective conferences........with tons of room for likely improvement....

General:

Without getting into specific players, certainly strongly obvious that the Colts knew where they needed to strengthen. DEFENSE. Should help them immensely. Now if they can obtain home field advantage, their chances to win a title become well within the realm of possibilities.

Why has it taken so long for Dungy to build a defense here...this team has been 'building a defense' since 1978 ?

The window of opportunity may run out with Edge and Harrison

Dungy is known to coach so that the defensive players swarm to the ball in numbers and teaching the importance of turnovers. Get to the ball, grab/stop, and then the help is to strip the ball.

But it's the Colts' run defense that needs the most help. I can't justify in my own mind a first and second rounder going to the secondary (with yet another to follow) when we needed more help at the line. Doss impresses me, which only reiterates my point.

they should have drafted a quarterback that would be willing to play without killing the teams salary cap...

dimesplayer,

I don't know what you are saying about first 3 defensive players tops in their conference. First of all, Jackson and Hayden were both from Big 10. Last time I checked, Erasmus James, Matt Roth, Castillo, were all rated higher though I still like Jackson as well as all three of those players. Hayden was supposed to be a 6th or 7th round choice at best so what were they thinking reaching for him in the 2nd round. Burns is from SEC and Kentucky which last time I checked couldn't hold anyone under 50 points. Top defensive players in that conference were Pollak,Webster,Spears,Burnett,Thurman, etc. Burns wouldn't even be in my top 10 from SEC. Colts picked late in this draft but besides Jackson, they did a horrible job though I respect Polian so who knows.

One thing about the draft is we really don't know who will be the stars in the future. We just hope for the best.

Good feedback Dime. I am hoping we can secure the chemistry. The Colts weren't that weak in the secondary last year but for the injuries.

Kojak is right about this...........other players were available that had better stats............

but guys..........many of the best players are the ones that have yet to mature.........the ones that have more growing potential (skills, attitude, ect)

Here imo is people that were available who Colts should have drafted.

2nd round they took Hayden- Better corners that were available were Green(VT), Mcfadden (FSU), Wilson (Stanford), and Hobbs (Iowa State). At inside linebacker were Mccoy, Crowder,Morrison, and Fincher. At outside linebacker were Tuck and Beck.

3rd round...Blackstock,Foxworth, Hill,Perkins, Daniels, and Considine were all available.

imo 2-4th rounds should have looked like this

2nd round Tuck or Crowder

3rd round Blackstock or Perkins or Elton Brown Guard from Virginia

4th round Terrell G N. Mexico or Fields (Miss ST DT),Mccune (ILb Louisville), Mitchell (lb Oklahoma), Boley (So Miss lb), or Hawthorne (DT Wisky)

Most of those guys available in 4th were also available with 5th so looking at it they did an even poorer job than I first thought.

dime,

I agree that some players never get better while others improve but you don't base early rounds of a draft on people that could be great but never have been. They are for those that are sure fire players who have done it before. Colts and others drafts board is the reason why Cardinals and others got 1st or 2nd round value through 5 rounds of this draft. Others go by combine workouts instead of what they produced on the field and they often pay a big price for it. Mike Martz and Rams are one of the worst at this but fortunately as a Rams fan Arney not Martz took over draft!
