Tip of the Day - April 25, 2005
TIP OF THE DAY
Sport: MLB - Baseball
Game: Chicago White Sox @ Oakland Athletics on Apr 25 2005 10:05PM
Prediction: under
Current Line: -127
Over/Under: 8.5 -107
Reason: The last eight meetings in this series have played under the total.
I don't expect that trend to change on Monday night.
The White Sox will have Jon Garland on the hill. He has been their strongest
starter in the early going, posting a 3-0 mark with a 2.57 ERA. The A's are
hitting just over .200 against right handed pitching at home, so expect him
to turn in another solid outing.
While we don't like to use the word 'due', Barry Zito is simply due for a
strong game. He is 0-3 this season with an ERA over six. This game
presents a terrific opportunity for Zito to send a message that he is
still one of the best starters in the American League.
This should be a pitcher's duel from start to finish. We'll predict a 3-2
final one way or the other. Take the under.-
Yesterdays tip that got cancelled b/c of bad weather is being played today, I'll post that also;TOD is 8-1 last 9 going for 4 in a row

Tip of the Day - April 24, 2005
TIP OF THE DAY
Sport: MLB - Baseball
Game: Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers on Apr 24 2005 1:05PM
Prediction: Minnesota Twins
Current Line: -101
Over/Under: 9 -115
Reason: The Twins and Tigers got snowed-out on Saturday (only in Detroit!).
Sunday's pitching matchup is the same as Saturday's scheduled one, Joe Mays
vs Jason Johnson. Mays has 'owned' the Tigers in his career with a LT 10-3
mark over Detroit and that does not include his 4/12 effort vs the Tigers in
Minnesota, is first start in the majors in more than a year. In that game, Mays
went five innings, allowing four hits and three ERs in what was an eventual 5-4
win by the Twins.
Minnesota had to be happy after Mays followed that game by going seven
inngs (5 hits / 1 ER) in his next start vs Cleveland. He looks fit! Johnson had
a terrible season last year going 8-15 5.13 with Detroit going 9-24 in his
starts. He's had two decent starts TY but in his third (at Minn), he didn't get
out of the first inning! That's in keeping with his five starts vs Minn last year
where the team lost four times with Johnson posting an ERA of 5.17.
Detroit's 5-4 (10 inn) win over Minn on Friday snapped a 10-game losing
streak against the Twins but I'm looking for Detroit to start an all-new losing
streak here. After all, the Twins took 41 of 56 games vs the Tigers the last
three seasons (won AL Central each year), including 19 of 27 in Detroit.
Cleanup hitter Morneau is back for the Twins (his HR in the 9th tied it on Fri),
while Magglio Ordonez is expected to miss his 11th straight game for Detroit.
Go with Mays and the Twins
Good luck
