Why the need to round the bases after a homerun?

General:

Here's another. How about the intentional walk. Why throw the four meaningless pitches. Just let the batter go to first base. I suppose the purest could say something like a wild pitch is always a possibility or something else could happen as long as the ball is in play.

Some homers aren;t known till they actually get over the wall...if you are supposed to assume every ball hit far is gone then what do you do with the balls that are off the top of the wall, or hit with the outfielders glove?

You have to use the same approach for all and unless its obvious, run your ass off.

And what happened when Tim McCarver passed his teamate in the base paths?

Did they score the HOMERUN???????? No!

Why don't they just give you a diploma for going to college???
First, you have to pass the exams!

Probably to insure that your typical American League dh(an abomination to baseball) can actually trot or wobble that far without having a coronary.

Ask John Olerud. I would have quit gambling if I had the Mets -1.5 or the over.

Brock,

By far the worst beat of my life.

I was also on the Houston Oilers when they "choked" in the playoffs against the Bills years ago.

That was a treat!

I have often wondered about that Ventura phantom GS, and someone who may have bet a ton on it...or someone who was down to their last bet, thinking they just won big and then to have that ruling screw them....gotta be the ultimate bad beat of all time.

I'll die hating Ventura. I had the over rin that game. 4-3 instead of 7-3.

Nolan Ryan should have hit him harder when the pos charged the mound that time! Could have put him out of the game for good!

Real Sports with bryant Gumbal had a piece on a compulsive gambler who lost 25k on this game. Said he wanted to kill ventura, I think if I lost 25k cause ventura didnt round the bases I would feel the same way.

what gets me is if i really wanted to issue an intentional base/balls instead of taking any chances of throwing a pitch - i'd have my pitcher stand on the mound and put his hand to his mouth (on a non-cold day when they do allow this) and have him lick his fingers 4 times - for each time you lick your fingers on the mound it is considered a ball in the count. why more don't do this is beyond me

what also gets me is why a manager - who is going to issue an IBB takes a pitcher out - brings in a reliver to throw 4 wide ones and then pitch to another hitter after the pitcher has just gotten used to throwing 4 outside - and then walks the next batter which makes the IBB meaningless. if you are gonna issue an IBB - LEAVE the pitcher in the game to do it - THEN bring in the reliver
