Cincinnati +1.30 over CHICAGO (2:20 PM)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Aaron Harang has made four starts this year and in all of them he’s made it to the sixth inning. With the exception of a start in St. Louis in which he allowed five hits and five runs in six innings, Harang’s starts have also been all of the quality variety. Harang has allowed just 19 hits in 24.1 innings and also has 21 k’s to go along with it. The opposition has hit just .221 against him in his four starts. The Reds will face Ryan Dempster this afternoon. Dempster has also pitched well, however, offensively, the Reds lay over this Cub team and that likely means some decisions for Dusty Baker. The more decisions Baker has to make the better chance we have of cashing our ticket. There’s a great possibility that the pens will decide this one and that, too, increases our chances of winning. Reds certainly a live dog here and their chances of winning are just as good as the Cubs. Play Cincinnati +1.30 (Risking 1.5 units).

Arizona +1.35 over LOS ANGELES (10:10 PM)

The good thing about Dodgers pitcher Jeff Weaver is that he throws strikes and is usually ahead of the hitters. The problem is that it hasn’t helped him much as Weaver really isn’t fooling anyone. He comes in with a 2-1 record but brings a 6.00 ERA to the table with him. He’s already allowed 34 hits and 16 runs in 24 innings of work and when he gets even a little rattled his game goes awry. The Dodgers have dropped four of five and that includes the first two of this set to the D-Backs. Arizona’s pitcher, Brad Halsey also challenges hitters and he, too, seldom walks a batter. In fact, he’s only walked two in 23 innings this year while striking out 15. He comes in with an impressive 2.74 ERA and after his first start of the year, a shaky one against the Cubs, he’s gotten progressively better each time out. Furthermore, the Snakes have won five in a row and playing on streaking teams is never a bad idea. Throw in this tag and this choice should be an obvious one. Overlay. Play: Arizona +1.35 (Risking 1.5 units).

Seattle +1.20 over TEXAS (8:05 PM)

Have no idea what has gotten into Ryan Franklin this year but the fact of the matter is that his numbers, although early, cannot be overlooked. Franklin has surrendered just 16 hits in 28 innings and he’s pitched into the eighth inning in each of his three starts. He five-hit K.C and followed that up with two, four-hit performances against the White Sox and A’s. The opposition is hitting a measly .163 against him in his 28 frames of service this year. Kenny Rogers deserves better than a 0-2 record in four starts. He’s pitched well enough to at least have a win or two. However, that first win is the most illusive and Kenny Rogers has pitched much better on the road than he has in Arlington. In fact, at home, the opposition is hitting a rock solid .327 against him and the Mariners exploded with 15 hits last night and have now won two in a row to even up their record at 10-10. See no advantage here for the home side. Play: Seattle +1.20 (Risking 1.5 units).

Tampa Bay +1.23 over TORONTO (7:05 PM)

Scott Kazmir of the Devil Rays is without doubt going to be one of the top lefthanders in the business. This kid can flat out pitch. With each outing, Kazmir has performed sharper than the last and in his last game, at Fenway, he limited the Red Sox to just one run and four hits in seven innings. Get used to lines like that from Kazmir. The only knock on him is that he does not have great command yet, however, that appears to be getting better too. He’s faced the Red Sox twice, the Orioles once and opened the year against this Blue Jay team, allowing just three hits and one run in five innings. In total, against some rather impressive bats, Kazmir has allowed just 19 hits in 22 innings. The Blue Jays also have an impressive young lefty going tonight in Gustavo Chacin. However, this is not about him. This is taking back a tag on a great young pitcher with nasty stuff in a game in which he can surely win. The Blue Jays are struggling with just one win in their past six games and just two wins in their past nine. Situation and price are both right and we’re on it. Play: Tampa Bay +1.23 (Risking 1.5 units).
