Down 6-2, bottom of the 6th, first guy gets a hit, next guy a HR. Now down by 2 runs. Next guy a hit, then another guy gets on.

1st and 2nd and what does he do? He bunts the runners over.

Why would you give this team an out after 4 guys in a row got on???? It's only the 6th inning!! Maybe you could have a big inning??

That is pretty stupid. Derrek Lee just bailed his ass out, at least for now - it's only the 7th inning and the Cubs' bullpen gives up runs like it's going out of style. Derrek Lee has got to be the NL player of the month for April.

Wonder why Florida dumped him.

At least that's what I thought at the time, until they signed Delgado for $4 million more per year than the Cubs are paying Lee, even though Lee is younger, much better defensively, and can run the bases pretty well.

These announcers are good.

I knew when he said "the last time the Cubs had a walk-off hr........"

I liked Dusty when he got the message that his services were no longer desired in San Francisco and left town. The man manages using superstition and a script regardless of the game situation.

After watching him I have come to the conclusion that he is the biggest ******* in sports. He finally got a closer the other day (Chad Fox - not his fault though). Fox throws 29 pitches in a save. Then Baker pitches him the next day in a 11-3 game and he blows out his elbow.

His stupidity as a manager truly knows no bounds. That bunt play was asinine...particularly with a guy who was already 2-for-2 on the day and with momentum strongly in the Cubbies' favor. Derek Lee was a one-man wrecking crew today and that bailed out the Cubs bunters...but Dusty is truly an imbecile.

Many managers make inane choices though. I'll never understand why in the 7th or 8th inning of a tie-game, managers will generally leave their starter in to bat if he's been pitching well up to that point. It's as though they have no confidence in their pens...even though 8 fresh arms have got to be better than letting a tired arm continue to pitch and give away one of the few outs you have left.

One of many typical stupid baseball decisions I'll never get.

The only thing I like is that he Manages the Cubs. Thus ensuring another season with no World Series, it's fun torturing Cub fans.

The best part is just looking at them during a game, you don't even have to say anything, when they see you watching them they go nuts and tell you to F**k Off!----- Priceless.

I see nothing wrong with bunting the tying runs into scoring position with 0 out ? If the pitcher was coming up.. bad play. Lots of Managers would make the same call. Dusty Baker worked miracles with the Giants but has made some bonehead moves with Cubs. However, the play you mentioned is good baseball IMO

But in the sixth inning? Say they bunt and tie it up, their super crappy bullpen has to hold Cinci to no runs. If they don't bunt and get a big inning, they're bullpen could ride it out. They were lucky to only give up one run from the 7th on.

If, If, If ? That's what make Saturday morning QB so smart ! That was probably the correct call by Dusty but it didn't work... this time. A Manager should play the odds and a lot of managers would have bunted to put the tying runs in scoring position. Be patient... Dusty will make far bigger blunders than this if you give him more time ! :lolBIG:

Ted, I shared your sentiments when Dusty was with the Giants. Seemed like he always got the most out of that team. But in Chicago, the guy has become a buffoon. First it was "Latinos and black players handle the heat better than white players", then it was "day games tire my guys out more than night games". Then it was "it's the announcers fault we're not playing well. The announcers are too negative." Now he's gone mute with some of the sportwriters in town who rightfully have laughed at his inane statements and criticized him for his remarks. As a lifelong Giants fan, I certainly don't want him going back to SF. Though I have to say, he's not long for the Cubs. The inane comments aside, his handling of pitchers has left many dumbstruck. He's gradually wearing out his welcome, even with his employers.

I saw an interview with Chad Fox on Sunday saying he could never close for an entire season because he did not have the arm to throw on back to back days. He closed on Sunday and then I see him pitching the very next day with the score 11-3. I said to myself why is Dusty Baker having him pitch on back to back days? A few pitches later Fox walks off the mound with an elbow injury. I hear now Fox blew out his elbow. Dusty Baker is probably one of the worst game managers in the league. No wonder SF told him to take a hike when he wanted a raise.
