I buy laptop ( err... notebook), and router, get "free " printer. Rebates total $280. I have to send 5 seperate mailings to get them. It takes a lot of time, then wait.

I don't like this system. It's worth the time to do it, but pisses me off, still !

I hear ya!

Currently in the process of sending one in for a measly $5 rebate for an oil change........ if you can believe that(those that know me will).

I think I need my head examined, I feel your pain!

I remember getting one and did not get paid until months later, but only 5 days after my email enquiry. They said the response was overwhelming, hmm.

just wait until the never ending exchange starts

1) "rebate? we never got any rebate forms from you?, did you send them registered mail? no? ah sorry we can't help you
2) "the promotion has expired" or "your upc code is uneligible"
3) "you didn't include 'x' item in the envelope required for the rebate" now of COURSE you did but how can you proove it !
4) "we sent the check, its lost in the mail, we can't reissue one"
5) "the company that offered the rebate has gone bankrupt, I am sorry that we can't help"

rebates

If you do not get your rebate ,I would get on the store's case. They would be guilty of false advertising.

Yeah..they are a pain in the ass. I usually do the busy work (fill out the form, cut out the UPC symbol etc.) to get the rebate while watching a game. I got a rebate check back for a free bottle of Listerine I purchased and the ink on the check was barely visible. I submitted the check for deposit to my bank as "Unable to Process". I was charged a $5.00 service fee. Not only did I not get the rebate, but I was lost an additional $5.00.

I think this is a big over simplification of the issue......if you google it you can find literally tens of thousands of issues with the rebates

I will never have again an issue with a rebate.......because I will simply avoid and prefer companies that don't have them

It took a lawsuit to get a store to take responsability for a simple rebate when the maker of the device (which was the one offering the rebate) went broke

Rebates are nothing but a hope on the stores side to keep the money and when someone is pacient enough to go through all the hoops then..........they get 6-8 weeks of interest free money in the bank account

I make a copy of everything, receipt,UPC code and rebate form. When you do get the inevitable" we did not receive your rebate ", you have your info to complain or in most cases you can actually resubmit the rebate. I buy lots of electronics, so this system is actually ingrained in me

Update: I got my pile of laptop rebates all within good time.

I've had major problems with Sears rebate on delivery charge ( about $75) for a fridge that's been going on for months. Major ordeal there, 1st fridge compressor failed after a month, they gave me $100 for spoiled food, sent out a bigger fridge( about $600 more, for same price), too big , wouldn't fit, sent smaller unit ( still $300-400 more than initial unit), works fine. I still want delivery rebate.

I sent in all proper SHIT 1st time ( mail), returned asking for same crap, resent, returned, had wife go to store and store fax it to Chicago. Major bad CS for Sears, but they upgraded. I'd let it go, but wife don't work that way !

At it again with a new round of $20-25 rebates. Need wireless network adaptor ( $50) costs $5 after 2 rebates for older laptop step-daughter got for free, bought new phones for $89... $20 rebate !
I just don't like this rebate stuff !

They're kind of like bonuses. They'll offer it, but you're going to have to work to get it.

There used to be a big problem with rebates. A local Phoenix news station interviewed current employees of rebate companies and the employees stated that they were encouraged to lie about not receiving the rebate forms so people would have to send them in again. They were told to do a lot of different things to stall the customer from getting the rebate.

It seems to have gotten better lately.

It doesn't suck so bad, considering how much the fridge was upgraded, but I say don't trust SEARS for delivery fee rebates ! JM e-mail me your digits, wife will tell you about for hours ! :howdy: :monsters-

I'm willing to settle for the upgrade , but SEARS leaves a bad taste !
