Applebee's International Inc. (APPB: news, chart, profile) reported first-quarter earnings of $31.7 million, or 38 cents a share, vs. $29.7 million, or 35 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $304.5 million vs. $277.4 million. Analysts expected earnings of 35 cents a share on revenue of $305 million. For the second quarter, it forecast earnings of 36 cents to 38 cents a share. For 2005, it forecast earnings of $1.49 to $1.52 a share.

Ask Jeeves (ASKJ: news, chart, profile) posted a 35% increase in its second-quarter profit, topping analysts' expectations, as sales grew to $94 million. See full story.

Enterasys Networks Inc. (ETS: news, chart, profile) narrowed its first-quarter loss to $10.7 million, or 5 cents a share, from $35.7 million, or 16 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $80.6 million vs. $87.2 million.

It revised its third-quarter revenue forecast to a range of $38 million to $42 million; revised its fourth-quarter revenue outlook to a range of $61 million to $76 million; and revised lower its 2005 revenue outlook to a range of $220 million to $240 million. Mentor Graphics Corp. (MENT: news, chart, profile) reported a first-quarter loss of $4.3 million, or 6 cents a share. Last year, it reported earnings of $2.2 million, or 3 cents a share. Pro forma earnings were 1 cent a share. Revenue was $164.3 million vs. $164.4 million. Analysts expected earnings of 1 cent a share on revenue of $166 million.

MetLife Inc. (MET: news, chart, profile) said it filed a universal shelf registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to allow it to sell up to $11 billion worth of securities. About $3.9 billion of registered but unissued securities remaining from its previous shelf registration are included in the new filing.

PerkinElmer Inc. (PKI: news, chart, profile) reported first-quarter profit rose 49% to $19.8 million, or 15 cents a share, from $13.3 million, or 10 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $416.3 million vs. $392.6 million. For the second quarter, it forecast earnings of 19 cents to 20 cents a share.

R.H. Donnelley Corp. (RHD: news, chart, profile) swung to a first-quarter loss of $129.3 million, or $4.10 a share. Last year, it posted a profit of $22.8 million, or 54 cents a share. Adjusted earnings were $44.3 million, or $1.16 a share. Revenue was $207.3 million vs. $143.8 million.

RSA Security Inc. (RSAS: news, chart, profile) reported first-quarter earnings of $7.2 million, or 10 cents a share, vs. $6.5 million, or 10 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $75.6 million vs. $72 million. Analysts expected earnings of 9 cents a share on revenue of $75 million. For the second quarter, it forecast earnings of 10 cents to 13 cents a share on revenue of $76 million to $80 million.

Sanmina-SCI Corp. (SANM: news, chart, profile) reported a second-quarter loss of $1.04 billion as it took massive charges and saw weakness in its computing business. See full story.
