Jamie Moyer (L) (4-0, 2.43 ERA) vs. Joe Blanton (R) (2-0. 1.75 ERA)
Seattle?s Opening Day pitcher is once again showing why he?s the main man on the M?s staff even at over 40 years of age. Remember, the crafty lefthander won 20 games just two years ago with his control and off speed deliveries before last season?s 7-13 mark. The Mariners are improved since then with Ichero still setting the table, and sometimes cleaning it as well. He hit the game-winning homer on Thursday against the Texas Rangers as the M?s took two of three from Texas. Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson have also beefed up the long ball expectations of Seattle. The A?s who are in a tussle with Seattle for second place in the AL West have Joe Blanton pitching Saturday. Blanton who lost a 6 hitter 1-0 this week should sue for lack of support. In 25 innings he has a 1.73 ERA and an 0-2 record to show for it. Blanton was in Triple-A a year ago and is one of the A?s best young pitching prospects. Rangers are playing power ball with over 30 homers through Thursday, Mark Teixeira (6 HR), David Dellucci (4 HR), Alfonso Soriano (4 HR) and Hank Blalock (4 HR) lead the power parade. The experienced Moyer will have his work cut out Saturday, but so will newcomer Blanton who isn?t getting run support. Take the Mariners.
