Kansas City +1.65 over CLEVELAND (7:05 PM)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
We know the Royals have lost eight in a row and have the major’s worst record. We’re not about to throw the ridiculous “due to win” theory at you. What we are going to do is play the Royals with Zack Greinke against an Indian’s team that’s simply not worthy of this price at the moment. Cleveland is 2-6 at the Jake and they’ve lost three in a row to drop to 8-13. They are dead last in the majors with a team batting average of .227 and they’ll face one of the toughest pitchers in the majors to break a hitting slump against. Greinke has outstanding command of a wide repertoire. Although he can hurl his four-seam fastball in the mid-90s, he prefers to take a little off to disrupt a hitter's timing, or induce movement by varying his grip. His two-seam fastball has great late sinking action and his slider breaks hard and late. However, Greinke's mid-60s curveball is the pitch that draws the most attention, as it freezes even the most seasoned hitters. Greinke varies speed and grip on each pitch such that he never throws the same pitch to the same batter in a game and will even try an occasional quick-pitch. The man is just too good to pass up taking this big a price on him and that’s all there is to it. Play: Kansas City +1.65 (Risking 1.5 units).

Detroit +1.25 over CHICAGO (8:05 PM)

You knew it wasn’t going to last and now that the White Sox have come back down to earth we can play against them with confidence. This is a great spot for the Tigers. They come in winners of five in a row and catch the South Side returning home from an eight game trip that ended with two losses in Oakland. Would prefer somebody else besides Nate Robertson for the Tigers, however, we’re not going to concern ourselves with that. Chicago struggles against lefthanders and they’ll have to rely on Jose Contreras tonight. Contreras has good stuff but the problem is the plate keeps moving around on him and he’s going to issue some walks like he always does. He also going to fall behind in the count to most batters and that’s just not a good recipe for success. The situation for the Tigers is much more advantageous than the pitching match-up and we find some nice value here on this live pooch. Play: Detroit +1.25 (Risking 1.5 units).

Chicago +1.40 over HOUSTON (8:05 PM)

The Astros are not doing much of anything right these days and have now dropped five straight. Sure, Roger Clemens is going and he can be counted on to pitch a good game almost every time out. However, the Astros cannot hit and the only reason they’ve been able to score runs is because they draw more walks then any team in the majors. In fact, they’ve already drawn 150 walks and that leads the league. The problem here is that they’re facing Greg Maddux and the only time he walks a batter is when it’s intentional. That means that the Astros are going to have to string together some hits and don’t count on that happening any time soon. They lost 2-0 in consecutive games to the Pirates to run their scoreless inning steak to 21. Most of the hitters on the team aren’t hitting their own weight. Astros may have a slight edge in the pitching department but that’s where any edge ends and no matter how this game turns out the gamble is a good one. Play: Chicago +1.40 (Risking 1.5 units).
