I have always heard that the average play is 6 sec. and that the total actual playing time in a game is about 6 min.

:fballch3:

anybody have any stats on this?

i'd bet thats about right..

i would say you get somewhere between 8 and 14 minutes of action in a football and baseball game .

doesnt really seem worth the 150 to 200 bucks for a family of 4 to go now , does it ???

This doesn't really answer the question but if you videotape a game and fast forward between every play, commercial and halftime, it takes about 40 minutes. Obviously there's a lot less action than that however.

6 minutes sounds about right. More action in a college game because of different clock rules.

I'd say it's around 15 minutes. Maybe they will come out with a way for tivo to only record the play time. Just imagine how much time you could save.

How about baseball?

1 second for the pitch to reach and not be hit, 4-8 seconds for each hit or out,

54 outs = around 360 seconds? = around 6 minutes?

210 pitches - 54 outs + 30 hits = around 180 balls and strikes? = 3 minutes?

9 minutes total

I dont know, but what I do know is, If my bets in front, its an eternity. If its trailing, the clock just wizzes by. The same thing with Horses, when your nags in front, they seem to run another 2 furlongs in the straight.
