Do you play until you're out of chips? A set time limit? A set 'up' limit? A set 'down' limit? Until your eyes are bloodshot?

For me it all depends on who else is at the table. Even if I am losing, if the competition is weak, I will rebuy.

There are several methods of planning. I'm a proponent of a set time limit (more or less) but leave if I have won more than can be reasonably expected within that time. You should leave if you are becoming fatigued or if the table makeup changes to your disadvantage.

I agree with Woody, I pretty much play in sessions. You should really leave the table at least, if the cards are running bad for you or your getting strings of bad beats. Them kind of things usually alter the way most people play. I am also a big believer in the seat I am sitting at:103631605

X...I'm new at the game, other than practicing on line I play live. What I do is try to make my buy in if I buy in for $200. thats what I try to leave with (cash games, no tourneys) If I lose it,well CYA, get em next time. I've been down to Foxwoods 5 times in the last month and have come a winner 4 times. The time I lost I was up 280. within 20 minutes.Instead of leaving I ended up going home a loser for $400.Lack of discipline...again.

I play 5-10 so $200. is really a low amount to play in that game but it forces me to play conservative. I don't even know if its the right way but I've heard a million variations.

depends on what type of player you are aXpanda are you tight agressive??? Just agressive etc..

It also depends on how the cards flow...Last night I got 2nd place in a live local NL tourney it paid 380 had about 35 people buy in was 25$ , that is also a factor if your a tourney poker player or live cash one also

I play online, so that's where this strategy applies. I will stay at a table until it turns bad. If you can beat those at the table you should stay. A perfect table for my game is one where there are at least a few passive players, two or fewer maniacs, and no more than one other good player.

If another good player sits down I'll normally leave because I don't want to waste my time splitting the profits three ways. If the table loads up with loose aggressive madmen I'll leave as well because I like to keep my bankroll swings as small as possible. It takes me about three orbits to determine (with confidence) a new player's style and ability. If the table remains good I'll stay until I get too tired to compete.

It's a good question. Table selection skills are undervalued; being able to detect changes in table texture is almost as important. Stop/loss and stop/win strategys are -EV.
