It amazes me how some of these sports books get our phone numbers to cold call.

Imagine if someone's wife or other family member doesn't know that we gamble...

These bastards don't seem to care that this is an invasion of our privacy...

Do you think it would matter any if we started listing some of the books who are using this unscrupulous method of obtaining customers?

If so, I will begin listing them regardless of whether they advertise with us or not...

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

the reason telemarketing exists....

despite the fact that we ALL hate it...

is simple....

because it works....

***That being said Wagering type telemarketing is different from other types....***

All books should have an option on their site when signing up or otherwise that they do not want to be called unless emergency...

I THINK it is by far the most classless thing a book can do...It turns me right off and I would imagine it turns off 90% of the posters ...your with your family and your cellpone rings and its some dude asking for post up....pathetic IMO....

TOP TOP books do not do this IMO , I do not care what the Rep has to offer me do it by EMAIL.....

FWIW....I haven't received ANY in a few years now. Used to get them every so often, like around the start of a new season or at other key times. One guy, called with my first name and when I answered the phone--his greeting was:
xxxxxxx, are you a dime player? That one ticked me off so bad --that I slamed the phone in his ear. I think if you totally IGNORE these folks it will stop. BUT -if you so much as show the slightest interest---it will continue.

Great topic for discussion! IMO a player's privacy is to be respected, and anyone calling a sports bettor, for whatever reason, needs to be extremely tactful, understanding the sensitive nature of these calls. There are guidelines of courtesy and common sense that must be followed.

Let's define a "cold call". To me it is when someone calls offering a service or a product I never asked about, or expressed interest in. Usually the caller has obtained your contact information through questionable or even illegal means.

Cold calling is one thing... and I think we all agree that it is irritating! But how do you see it when you have expressed interest in a service, and you receive a courtesy follow up call? IMO that is a different story. I think it can be considered "warm calling" at worst, but not cold calling. Do others agree?

SportSavant's suggestion that players are able to indicate their preference for calls upon registration is definitely a good one.

With that being said.... I hate it when I get unsollicited emails from books! Always makes me wonder who is selling my email to them!

We all know that some will still call or email or send junk mail, or even sell the information...even after requesting that not be the case.

That's true Journeyman. Perhaps in the end it boils down to dealing with ethical companies that understand your concerns, and respect your right to privacy.

I must get at least an email a day from Royal. It's been getting worse over the last few weeks. They throw 50% bonuses around like it won't ever cost them anything(which is scary). I haven't been cold called since I put my name on the no call list, so I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Major turnoff....would never deal with a sportsbook that called me up to make a sales pitch...

I stick to the major, top end books, and if any one of them ever calls me up to make a sales pitch I'll drop them on the spot, and tell them just so they know how they fvcked up.

If they want business run a shop that takes care of business, provide good customer service, and offer what the best shops offer that draw customers in. Offer overnight lines and halftime lines and try to set yourself apart from the crowd. I won't even look at a book that doesn't offer overnight lines......why play at a book where you're stuck tomorrow with a line that the value has already been bet out of?

As others have already stated.....send an email, it's way less intrusive and much more private.
