so early in the game it does make sense not to waste a guy, but I was more impressed he actually got a hit

i think it was his rookie year or maybe 2nd year with the dodgers when Darren Dreifort was brought up to pinch hit in B9 with the bases loaded, 2 outs and the score tied and he promptly lined the game winning single into CF on like the first pitch he saw. in college dreifort was an AWESOME hitter and because he went almost from college to the pros still had a decent swing

willis homered a few times last year I believe.

The guy can hit, never feel uncomfortable about seeing him at the plate even with money on the marlins

The way Dreifort's career has gone he should have stayed a hitter. Best hitting pitchers so far in 2005 are Carlos Zambrano, .357 avg with a .571 slugging, Hampton (of course) .357 with a .429 slugging and Jason Marquis .273 and a .545 slugging. There are others off to good starts too. Hell, if I was a AL Manager and had Mike Hampton I would DH him on his non pitching days. I wonder if we will ever see that happen in our time. :think1:

I mentioned this about a month ago. Mets vs Braves in 85. Braves run out of position players and send Rick Camp to pinch hit in the ninth and ties up the game with a HR.
