and make sure they are NOT "yes" men (women") who only suck up to whoever the boss is because they worry about losing their jobs if they say something the boss won't like.
and also realize good ideas come from people in all positions. just because the janitor is a HS dropout doesn't mean they can't come up with good ideas. they are in the heart of the action and see and hear things bosses don't and at times - can come up with ideas NO ONE ever thought of because these people are in places few if any want to go.

Have always felt that a good way to measure a man or woman is to pay attention to those he or she surrounds themselves with. Agree with Winky, that it is extremely important to the success of the man or woman to surrounds themselves with as many varying views as possible and not just have everyone around them nodding their heads in agreement. imo, "learning" from successful people is more important than surrounding yourself with successful people, unless you need constant affirmation (a Stuart Smalley type).
Definately, it's good to stay away from bad apples, they will only screw up and disrupt your progress and stability. They can also land you in jail or prison if they are engaging in illegal activities.
