One way to be successful is to surround yourself with the RIGHT people and I believe the converse of this is also true...

Don't you agree?

agree

and make sure they are NOT "yes" men (women") who only suck up to whoever the boss is because they worry about losing their jobs if they say something the boss won't like.

and also realize good ideas come from people in all positions. just because the janitor is a HS dropout doesn't mean they can't come up with good ideas. they are in the heart of the action and see and hear things bosses don't and at times - can come up with ideas NO ONE ever thought of because these people are in places few if any want to go.

Have always felt that a good way to measure a man or woman is to pay attention to those he or she surrounds themselves with. Agree with Winky, that it is extremely important to the success of the man or woman to surrounds themselves with as many varying views as possible and not just have everyone around them nodding their heads in agreement. That leads to no growth of knowledge and slows successful progression.

Absolutely. I think of this every so often, if you surround yourself with talent you're going to succeed.

I'd like to think it also helps bring out your better inner qaulitys as well.

Even if it is just in a small capacity, such as a social circle.

imo, "learning" from successful people is more important than surrounding yourself with successful people, unless you need constant affirmation (a Stuart Smalley type).
Definately, it's good to stay away from bad apples, they will only screw up and disrupt your progress and stability. They can also land you in jail or prison if they are engaging in illegal activities.

Look at it like being a QB, EGO. If you have a bunch of crap recievers, do your TD's and Completion percentation go up or down?

When you tell me someone went from being a degenerate gambler who lost his home pitching nickles, then moves to vegas and connects with the right people to be the most succesful gambler of all time. Well, I would think that is a product of surrounding yourself with talent.

Look at Doc Mercer, would he have all those great articles to post without his favorite writers to cut and paste from :>Grin>

It comes down to karma. Good people have good karma and that will have a positive effect on your life. The opposite is also true. We have all seen that too many times.

Didn't think it mattered much when I was a little younger but I firmly believe in that philosophy now.

If you surround yourself with people who are successful at a particular thing you wish to also be successful in, the very least that comes from it is a network of people to open doors for you.

It's a who-you-know kinda world, fer sure.

I am not one who is confrontational by nature, but I must say for a representative of a sportsbook to be constantly making this comment is getting quite old. Quite frankly, I have often mentioned your book in the past in a positive manner as one that has paid me quite handsomely on numerous occasions with 5 figure payouts. You might want to look in the mirror and ask yourself why it is so easy for me to take from you. Reason: I hit you where you are not sharp at all, as you follow your own sheep. Get your own house in order before being critical of others.

This Thread and the answers given prove what a bunch of self-centred, tunnel visioned gang, including myself, us gamblers are. In reality, if it were not for the people who think otherwise, there would be no charity in the World.

oldmanted, once again, right on the button....

What irks me is, if we're sheep, I wonder what he calls his own employees or even customers?
