Charles Johnson account for nearly 1/4 of the teams total salary!

Time to put an end to the "guaranteed contract"

Yep and he's an over the hill catcher...I can think of worse reasons why baseball is screwed up..the Oakland A's not being able to keep four cornerstone players in their prime, this is a team that would be competing for ther World Series for 7-8 years if they didn't lose thier players.

How much better off would MLB be without the Guaranteed contracts?

I mean does Roger Cedeno really deserve to make nearly 6 million this year to pinch run for the Cardinals?

Well, it would be great if it was more arbitration based on a yearly basis or teams wouldn't sign anyone beyond a year. Problem is they would get nailed for collusion. Another thing I am curious about is what the mlb pension is like. What do they get a month. Are their medicals fully covered.

P.S.

Once a player becomes fully vested ( I believe it to be 43 days on a ML roster) then they are entitled to full medical among other benefits.

Avatars....I have been changing a bit too frequently for my taste. I change after a losing day.

5team- I did not figure that the Drays were paying the whole thing, but the fact of the matter is he is still making 9 million a year. That is crazy. I agree that the Drays are putting way too much cash in their pocket though and should raise the payroll. Baseball needs a cap and a basement when it comes to salaries.

A DEFINITE AND WOULD SOLVE MANY PROBLEMS, The Drays are stealing from the rest of baseball, they also recieve road get, that should be taken away from them. <!-- / message -->

Basements will never go over with the bottom half of the owners and the end of guaranteed contracts is an absolute non-starter for the union. Its all just a system though, you pay heavily for your mistakes and it should be that way. In the NFL you can structure things where mistakes are short-term problems.

There are far worse mistakes in the NBA though. We all saw the humongous error teams made in signing Adonal Foyle and Mehmet Okur to multi-million dollar deals. The Warriors are a hot property now, but that Foyle contract will kill them for a long time. Jazz better hope Boozer works out very well because Okur will be holding down the team for a number of years with mediocre stats.
