May. 5 - The Steelers and Ward's agent, Eugene Parker, have begun negotiating a contract extension for the four-time Pro Bowl receiver, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Although there's no guarantee it will be completed before the start of the season, Ward has no intention of letting his contract status affect his commitment to the team.
"There's nothing I can do," Ward told the newspaper. "They're talking to my agent and stuff like that. It's out of my control. I still have to go out here and perform. I'm busting my tail and worrying about getting better. I'll let my agent and the Steelers talk about my contract."
The 29-year-old Ward is looking for a deal similar to the Colts' Marvin Harrison's reported seven-year, $67 million extension signed last year. Ward has topped 90 catches three times and caught 80 passes last year despite the fact the Steelers ran the ball 61 percent of the time.
May. 4 - The Titans met with Eddie George on May 2, but made no commitment to the franchise's all-time leading rusher, reports The Tennessean.
"It was basically just a meeting between a player and a general manager where they wanted to talk and find out if our perceptions of what we want to do are the same," George's agent, Lamont Smith, told the newspaper. "It was a good meeting, one that both parties left feeling good about."
George expressed interest in returning to Tennessee earlier in the offseason. George, who had a career-low 432 yards on just 132 carries for the Cowboys last season, was released by the Titans following the 2003 season.
