I really have to hand it to the Connecticut state government for this shining example of how to run a government (i.e. an exemplary act of demonstrating why there should be no frickin government in the first place.)
Liability claims for dog attacks account for 25% of all homeowner insurance claims.
In 2003 there were 4.5 million dog attacks reported, with 800,000 resulting in hospitalisation.
That year the net claims against insurance companies for dog attacks was $ 321.6 million.
Clearly, dog attacks as a homeowner liability issue is a problem for insurance companies.
But don't worry; the Connecticut state government has fixed the problem by passing a law which prohibits "breed discrimination" against owners of Rottweillers, pit bulls, etc. That'll fix the problem toot sweet, wee?
(ASIDE: As an owner of a pair of the notorious Presa Canario, I can fully understand why some people and insurance companies would be uncomfortable with my puppies. I also am an avid dog lover and understand that lack of owner/breeder responsibility plays a big part in dog attack problems. But an insurance company is not a public service and like any other private party has the right of association, and therefore right of disassociation.)
