do you sometimes slowplay? That is to buy time so more players will be eliminated giving you better odds to make it in the prize money?

Some people try this in multi-table tournies early on. Its ridculous. While the other good players are accumulating chips, your table is slow playing. If you do indeed make it to the cashing round..you are so shortstacked you have no chance. When the real money starts kicking in, the software takes care of this problem, and makes sure all tables play 1 hand at a time.

No. I like to get as many hands in as possible because I feel the more hands I see the more chips I'm going to get. Im not looking to make the money, all the money is at the final table. This is called stalling btw and when you get real close to the money, most sites go hand for hand thereby eliminating the ability to stall.

However, stalling is one thing, playing to JUST finish in the money is another thing.

You should ALWAYS have the mindset to WIN FIRST PLACE in the tourney.

Much better to finish FIRST once than have 5 or 6 5th place finishes.

Solid words Fish

I got 3 goals when I'm in a tourney

1. Get in the money
2. Make the Final table
3. Win it

Speaking of poker, I just completed a misearable day on the felt.

About seven hours of pure torture in NL ring games...........each win was far and few between the ENTIRE day.

Needless to say, I lost my shirt.

I think the guy was referring to some bigger tournaments which have about 600 entries and the top 80 cash. If you are severely shortstacked and there are 85 players left, you would be a moron not to slowplay. No one is saying to fold AA in order to cash, but if you arent getting hands and other tables are slowplaying you would be throwing away money by letting the blinds get to you faster.

Like someone said most sites dont allow that later in the tournament, they freeze all the tables until every table has finished each hand.

Doesn't the software dictate at what pace each player has to make decision. Mix it up, slow and speedy. Keep em guessing back and forth with what time you are allowed.

Stalling in this type of tourny is an excellant strategy when your low on chips...i cant tell you how many times i reached the final table at intertops freerolls having never gotten but a few hundred chips above the starting amounts...got cussed like a dog the whole way but i was there at the end and they were not...

When your playing freerolls try a lil bit of everything to see what works and when it works...you can by the way play freerolls all night long on weekends at ACR....great learning ground ..they start at 20 mins aft the hour every hour from midnight to 6 am.

HOWEVER in a pd tourney be careful, you can be banned for stalling if they get enough complaints on you....

lol. .true PP. Like prima, they have the best sound of anyone IMO, when I have it up I get caught up in it along with the awesome graphics they have and I start to play bad.

I always play great with the sound off.

There is a difference between playing tight (being selective on hands played) and slow playing (underbetting and checking to show weakness with a strong hand). Playing extremely tight is a mistake early on when blinds are low IF there is little aggression and raising preflop. Slowing playing can be good or bad depending on who is at your table and how agressively they are playing. Usually you can do some serious damage to overly aggressive players if you flop a monster. BUT slow playing will cost you hands.
