.....in late JULY in 1978.

What happened?

They won the division!!

Currently it is the first week of MAY and they are a mere 9 games out.

IT AMAZES ME HOW PRACTICALLY EVERY YEAR SO MANY FANS TAKE THE FIRST 30 DAYS OF THE SEASON AND MAKE SO MANY ABSURD ASSUMPTIONS.........EITHER ABOUT A TEAM OR A PLAYER.

SIT BACK AND RELAX, ITS A LOOOOOOONG SEASON!

PULEEEEEEEASE!

The 1978 Yankees were a very decent team early that season, 29-17 by the end of May....not a good comparison.

Of course NY could still turn it around, but this team has so many cracks in it, its nothing like the '78 team.

Fish, I know its early but not that early. When you get behind like the Yankees have, to get back in your going to have to play great Baseball. How are you going to go on long winning streaks with the holes in that pitching staff ? repeat after me, The Yankees are Dead ! TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEE Yankees are Dead !

Next time a team is down 0-3 in a series, we can also point to the Red Sox beating the Yankees. Next time a team is down 31 in a game, we can point to LSU losing to Kentucky. Next time a baseball team needs 7 runs in the ninth, we can point to the Cincinnati game.

Fish, these Skankees are DONE ... and with that payroll, they are done for 3 years.

PS: Does anyone know where I can find unique Red Sox avatars?

unFVCKINGbelieveable that the Yanks are this bad but the truth of the matter is REAL simple, they WILL NOT improve until they get some pitching.Right now the Yanks are exactly what the Rangers have been for MANY years,BIG bats but NO pitching! You see how well thats worked for Texas? Unless Yanks make some blockbuster trade for a top notch pitcher(which they probably will) they will miss playoffs!

They have no one to trade to get better, farm system is empty and Big Club has big contracts that nobody else wants. What are you going to to do to get pitching , trade Sheffield ot Jeter ? There is a bad place.

They will pick up Clemens around all-star break, but may be too late and he is only one starter.
