Man last year was great. What happened today to Bellamy Road, Afleet Alex, Bandini, etc just made me appreciate just how special last year was with Smarty Jones. These favorites have the other horses gunning for them which seems to make it that much tougher to win then when they are underdogs.
Smarty was so great last year. Only lost one race in his career and barely lost that one after fighting off the whole field gunning for him in last years Belmont. He came up just a bit short in his last race after a tiring schedule last year. It's a damn shame he was retired early. Would have loved to see him race some more.
All the triple crown winners were before my time so I never got to see the super horses.
