Surprise
St Louis- alot of pitchers had career years last season. Never would have thought some of the guys would step it up 2 years in a row like they have done so far.

disapointing

Chicago cubs- Most of the problems not there fault. Injuries to Garciaparra, Wood, and Walker have hurt, but still no excuse for the poor record so far.

Disappointed in the Cubs only because they knew all offseason they needed a closer and did not address it. Also their fielding has been horrible and has cost them 3-5 games already.

Where do I start? You don’t have to go much farther than the A.L. East to answer this but the early season surprises don’t end there. Baltimore and New York are the obvious choices so I’ll take Choptalk’s lead and look deeper.

Number 1 surprise for me must be the ChiSox. Best start since the Black Sox squad of 1919? Who could have predicted that this team, who barely finished at .500 last year, would be would win 23 of their first 30 games in ‘05?

My personal biggest disappointment is the Seattle Mariners who I thought would contend for the division title. It’s still much too early to say they won’t but the way they came out of the box has me wondering. They haven’t suffered any major injuries but just aren’t producing offensively. Winning 4 of 14 home games hasn’t helped their cause. The only positive for them is their bullpen which ranks second in MLB with a 2.07 ERA.

Baltimore...and obviously New York, no one could have expected it to be this bad...I knew Wright was an awful aquisition, but this is incredible.

White Sox - surprise how good they are
NYY - Surprise how bad they are!!

Not dissapointed in the Cubs because I knew this team would be pathetic and they always will be. . .Its thier job. They lose games like they are paid to do it!!
I hate this team more then any baseball team in the league because they dont play fundamental baseball. They make errors, dont bunt runners over, dont get runs home with runners on third less then two out, walk athe lead off man every 9th inning, dont hold leads. . .I just flat out can't stand watching a team that doesnt play good baseball and I will bet against them any chance I get!!

Surprise - White Sox, Nationals, Orioles, Dodgers (thought they would SUCK this season), Yankees (how awful they are), Rockies (I thought they would be bad - not they are worse than bad - these guys couldn't beat the LLWS winners - they are THAT bad)

Disappointing - Padres (100% agree with Roxy here - and that is with Alderson taking over - those guys better realize "fun time" is OVER and they better start living up to potential or else this team is gonna look REALLY different next season - and my guess is Bruce Bochy might be looking for employment in October)

Biggest surprise - Chicago White Sox (they're killing my
under for the season bet). Biggest disaster is clearly the
NYY and Steinbrenner who could only get 7th in the Derby!
(and 3rd in Division at end of September)
