:monsters-

Shouldn't Tom Brady be making more than Peyton Manning? Brady will only be making $10 million per year!!!! He deserves to be the highest paid QB in the NFL!!!

Mr. Brady - you need a new agent, sir.

Peyton had better individual numbers than Brady does. If Brady's happy with the contract, which obviously he is, why aren't you? There's no way NE would have paid Brady as much as Manning got. It would have messed up their team salary structure for years.

if he were paid more he'd be in the same boat as Manning.....Mannings contract puts a choke hold on the team....they can't afford to pay everyone else!

Sherman,

Good point. I guess Brady and his agent figure he can live on 10 mil a year and he also gets to keep on winning SuperBowls. Not everyone on this site can understand the NFL salary cap and it's issues when it comes to paying a team's stars AND trying to keep the team competitive. I think Brady's a hell of a QB but there are other QB's that could be plugged into the NE system and the team wouldn't suffer too much. And I'm sure Brady understands that as well as anyone.

i dont think it's a character issue judge. since when is it WRONG to go for the money? who are we to judge whether winning is more important than money?

in this instance, brady clearly would prefer to win and stay put. so he is taking much less than he could otherwise find...

I think placing an emphasis on winning and team shows a great amount of character. How much money does a person need?

I have said this many times before and will say it again

The next time people try to make excuses about Manning not having a defense, just remember that a lot of it has to do with an $18 million that he is getting. With the $10 million that Brady got, they can add more 3 solid starters.

Football is a team game, and Step I is the contract negotiation. Once you hold out or handcuff a team for years, don't complain that you're not winning.

He will get a lot more endorsement money being on a winning team. In the long run, he might make even more money by taking less to play on a winning team.

ID,

Have you ever played a team sport? Have you ever won a championship? Anyone that has to ask whether winning is more important than money hasn't, IMO. It is all about character in Brady's case.... he's got a ton of it. And besides, who's to say he would get much more anywhere else. His stats aren't off the chart when it comes to yardage and TD's. He plays within the system and does what is asked of him to help the team. I honestly don't think he's the greatest natural QB in the league but he's smart and he does what he's told to do.

And still, he's not being paid peanuts, folks. He's still probably (though it's hard to compare salaries because of the structures) the third highest behind Manning and Vick. Plus, he keeps his team in good financial shape, he has all the marketing opportunities he wants if he chooses. To top it off, he's being paid in the first three years more than either of them. That's still pretty damn good.

One last thing, Manning does handcuff the team salary cap wisae, but he is still to blame for the playoff losses, not the defense. His worst games are in the playoffs. Look it up. Hand on throat.

When numbers get that big they are just numbers. 10 mil or 18 mil what is the difference? Unless they have some serious addictions they will NEVER spend that much money in their lives.

All this talk from these clowns saying they have short careers and all that. Well most people do not make a million dollars in their lifetime working, yet these guys can't seem to scrape by on 5-6 mil a year?

Besides the NFL is all about upfront money and signing bonuses, they could wipe their azzes with the so called contract they sign. So that is a catch-22, they make a lot of money, and they also get a lot of money up front to do with as they please. So with the right investments and management that upfront money could make them an extra 10-20% for a season. So that 5 mil signing bonus could turn into 5.5 to 6 mil by season end.

But again when it gets that high they are just numbers, it is like monopoly money. Aslong as they have a house or two, a couple nice rides, every game for playstation or xbox or whatever game is hot these day, a nice home theater, what else do they need money for? Maybe some bling. But I can't picture Brady or Manning sportin a 2 carat earring anytime soon.
