NEED ADVICE ON A FAMILY MATTER, I HAVE 2 KIDS A GIRL 7 AND A BOY 5. I LIKE TO THINK IM A PRETTY GOOD FATHER.BUT, NOW IM FACED WITH A REALLY TOUGH DECISION.ONE OF MY CLOSE FRIENDS ALSO HAS 2 KIDS A GIRL 7 AND A BOY 6. THEY ARE GOING TO FLORIDA NEXT TUESDAY, DISNEYWORLD, SWIM WITH DOLPHINS, THE WHOLE SHABANG! WELL THEY HAVE INVITED MY LITTLE GIRL TO GO WITH THEM. BUT MY SON WAS NOT INVITED BECAUSE THEIR SON IS TAKING A DIFFERENT FRIEND. I HATE THE THOUGHT OF DENYING MY DAUGHTER THE OPPORTUNNITY TO GO, BUT MY SON WILL BE HEART BROKEN!! ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED. THANKS SHAWN GOTTI:sad3:

Yes, why wouldn´t she? Let her go!!!
You may be able to spend a nice time with your boy as well. Is a good time to go fishing, sports event, camping, you know what i mean? Make the boy feel special for you and make your bond stronger.
He is 5... he won´t remember his sister´s trip, but will remember he spent a wonderful time with his dad, remember... at his age, you are his heroe :)

i know it will be tough for the kid but think of it this way...he will be faced with dissappointments in his life, much bigger than this probably. the sooner he can learn to deal with them as a youngster, the better off he will be when his girlfriend dumps him or his act score is too low to get into notre dame.

no parent enjoys seeing their kids dissappointed but, it is unavoidable. i really believe that how you deal with the bad things in life is what determines your character and overall happiness.

Well I have no children, and just got divorced so whatever I say is probably wrong. My first thought is it would have to be hard to trust someone else with your daughter on such a big trip...I read that you said it is a close friend so thats good. My second thought is that why wouldn't your friend just dictate that his son is taking your son as a guest? I may be wrong in thinking that way but he seems to be causing you a good deal of a problem. I guess the best option is let her go and entertain him for the week...knowing the nature of sibliongs, she will no doubt brag to him about her trip, so you have to give him PLENTY to brag about to his big sister when she gets back.

You explain to the boy that different people have different friends.
It wasn't YOUR choice to make...
You have to explain to him that in the future people will invite you to go places that your daughter can't goto...

This is the perfect time to explain how each of them is different, and have different friends, etc...

I would make EXTRA CARE to spend QUALITY time with him while she is away

best of luck

Your daughter is too young, to go off for a week with friends, also, a week at DW with friends is way too much of a life time memorable experince to spend with "friends" and not Family. Try and save some dough, hit a couple 2 team parlays and TAKE the FAMILY on that trip yourself, its a much, much better thing than sending her off with "Friends" and dont forget, you're living ain a day and age of crazy, crazy stuff that happens, its always the same thing in the news,

"He's such a good neighbor" never bothered anyone, they were such nice people.

And there;s always some horrific incident or past incident involved.
