In the strike shortened 1981 season Fernando did win CY Young and Rookie of the Year, but he was not NL MVP..Off the top it may have been Mike Schmidt (I didn't look)

1981 was the first strike that i remember real well, and it was a looooong summer without baseball!

They got no-hit a couple of years ago when Houston used 5 pitchers to do it. It was the first time since 1957 for NY.

I still remember when i finally got his baseball card, and where I was, this is over 30 yrs now....I can still see that card, walking down Georgia avenue

11-11-1981 Fernando Valenzuela is the first pitcher to win both the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season, NO MVP.

Wil is correct - the AL ROY in 1971 is Chris Chambliss. Blue did win the Cy and MVP.
