I got pulled over in South Texas today. To my shock, the reason I got stopped was b/c I was not wearing a seatbelt. I got stiffed w/ a $135 citation. What a bunch of BS. I am just glad he didn't look in the trunk. Otherwise, I'd be in jail for a long time.

I have always heard you can get pulled over for no seatbelt, but I have never actually heard of it happening to anybody. Sometimes I wish I had (.)(.)

Same damn thing happened to me in Iowa a few years back. I couldn't believe it. Minding my own business driving speed limit and the trooper pulls up alongside me and noticed I wasn't wearing it and tickets me. Unfreakingbelievable.

If I had contraband in trunk I'd make sure belt was on, brake lights working, etc.

A dead body is contraband, IMO. I define it as something you are not supposed to have !

If you guys lost a family member who wasn't wearing a seatbelt I bet you would change your tune. One of my best friends just lost a 20 year old brother. He didn't have his belt on, his passenger did. Passenger had two cuts, climbed out of the car and called 911. I just can't understand how one could ever go without one....

I hear ya Bill and I actually buckle-up usually, especially on the highway. But it is a personal lifestyle decision just like smoking cigarettes or skydiving. I appreciate law enforcements concern for my welfare, but the way I see it, it is a very selectively enforced law and I do not think it a coincidence that I have out-of-state plates on my car. They are looking to raise revenue. I am a good driver and have never been in an accident and haven't been pulled over since I was 18. Instead of wasting time on me, they should go after the A-holes that don't use turn signals, run red lights, speed, or otherwise drive dangerously and actually endanger the lives of others.

No big deal though, I did the crime and I'll pay my fine and if I remember, I'll buckle up tomorrow.

Here is an idea...if you wear your seatbelt...then they can't pull you over for not wearing your seatbelt and therefore you avoid a $135 fine. Remember, police have to show "work" that they have done for the day to their supervisors and this usually means tickets or arrests. Update your tags, keep you lights working, wear your seatbelt, don't speed and obey traffic laws and most likely they will never bother you...too many other "easy" targets like...people who don't wear their seatbelt. :>Grin>

The police are America's first line of defense. I'm glad they protected us law-abiding citizens from your seatbeltless ways ...

Sorry to hear about your loss Wildbill but in a free country people should be allowed to make their own decisions regarding their own safety. A seat belt law a joke and anybody that gets stopped for not wearing one should be pissed. I had an accident many years ago where i feel I would not be here today IF I was wearing a seat belt. It was my choice then. Now the state dictates it for you. Really sad IMO.
