I think most people realize that it evens out generally. It's fun to share the bad beats and is more a therapy than anything else. It is part of the community we share that 'bad beats' get explained and explained and retold a billion times. I think most of us believe that it evens out.
I have been much happier since posting here after getting a loss that shouldn't have occurred. I comiserate with others and it clears my head for the next day. Before, I would lay in bed, my mind whirling over and over on the loss and had no one really to 'share' my anger with.
Man, this topic reminds me of a Monday night football game the year before last when the Indianapolis Colts were playing the Bucanneers (-4) at Tampa....

How is this for a bad beat......
I was at a buddies house last night and his wife had some girl friends over there. I struck up a conversation with one and we were hitting it off pretty good. I ask her if she wants to go down by the water. We get down to my buddies dock and we are there talking and things are starting to progress, when next thing you know........SPLASH! She fell into the water. I helped her out and everything, but it was the end of my night with her.
