By it's very nature gambling attracts mostly those who should not be doing it.
Individuals with little to no self control, extremely compulsive, and with highly addictive personalities.
I mean how else has Las Vegas and the other Gambling establishments across the Country grown to the size they have. Those places aren't built on paying out winnings.
On the other hand there is a small percentage of those who gamble who don't have any of the before mentioned personality traits.
I like to think of myself in that group. I approach gambling as a hobby. Where a lot of people either smoke, or drink ,or go out to eat a couple times a week, or perhaps golf two or three rounds a week, I spend money on none of that. I set aside my 100 dollars a week, or whatever, to gamble.
I don't gamble for the excitement of the "action". I gamble to hopefully win money. I despise losing my money so I do everything I can to tilt the odds as much as I can in my favor. I strictly bet on sports and only on those for which I have a strong knowledge and follow closely.
Like anything you get out what you put in. The vast majority of sports bettors, by the very nature of their personalities, don't have the patience and self control to invest the vast amount of time it truly takes to study the games and to pick the winners.
I believe strongly that the hardcore, addictive, compulsive gambler, cares little about winning, it's all about that momentary rush of the play that feeds their addiction.
To have the chance to be a successful gambler you must cherish your money.
Just like investing your money, the best chance of it growing is with a slow and steady return. If you chase the big score you will always lose in the long run.
