DO RX BOOKs "lay off" action?

I've seen opinions that books, such as Bodog, 'lay off' their action? I can't fathom this at all. I"m not talking about a local getting a little heavy on a game. I'm talking about BoDog, WSEX, Pinnacle, etc, laying off action as some posters here have stated. And I'm not talking about a book, ie, the owner, gambling because he likes a game. If you've got the best of it then why lay it off? And getting -110 is damn sure getting the best of it.

Shrink, anyone?

max,

I'd be stunned if the majority laid off...

However, when I think about one in particular that gambles as well, if they know the source is a proven winner, I believe they scalp sometimes...

ROFL at "they scalp sometimes"
Scalping is a sportsbooks business (that and middling players if they can)!

I don't believe laying off by major books is common at all. Do some owners or top level managers bet with an eye on their charts at times? Most likely they do if they happen to be heavy to the side they feel is the "right" side. All things considered well financed and well run books don't need to lay off. A big problem laying off is numbers available at layoff time, there is no sense laying something off (basketball example) at -4 when all your action is at -3. Baseball is also not prone to offer a layoff at desirale numbers late or close to game time either.
