A lot of you would be shocked if I told you how much back stabbing and jealousy goes on behind the scenes regarding sports books and other gambling portals...

The instigators really look childish and petty in the eyes of others who have to listen to this garbage which quite often is agenda driven...

I guess in this environment where competition is so keen, it goes with the territory, but so many who I used to respect, I don't any longer...

It's always been my belief that one should make it on his or her own, without the need to put others down...

Oh well, what goes around, comes around..:smoker2:

Probably a fact in all sectors of business today. Yep-it's childish; but what's the saying:' "All's fair in War and Business"? I don't agree with that--but......

I never understood why EVERYBODY does not want EVERYBODY to succeed........even if it may be a little bit more than their own self.

They should only look on it as a way to motivate themselves to become better, rather it be in business or just life on a day-to-day basis.

Life is to short, wish your neighbor well, and chances are you will prosper also.

Shocked? I'm not at all shocked. It's very common in many aspects of life.

Bookmakers are the WORST, one gets jealous if the other makes more money than the other, I will not go out on a limb and start calling out names, but its sickening how so many knock each other in this business all over jealousy.

I guess they all need to see "A Beautiful Mind" and then figure out how to apply game theory to their business.

yeah, but sometimes just looking out for your own best interests is considered backstabbing by a lot of people....

I hate a back stabber period, thats the people thats hard to trust, what I hated more than anything was when I was working for one. how some of them can be so nice in front of you or on the phone is beyond me. This guy has no clue how to book or its a matter of time before he goes broke. Rob, defintely EGO plays a big part...

It is SO hard to find trust, especially on the internet. The thing that is cool though is it is such a small world on here. Word gets around quickly in this business and usually you can find out about the ones who are or want to stab you in the back.

Another issue is that Most people can't keep their darn mouths shut when asked.

I will be the first to give Ken credit for having the steadiest hand although I think most of us in the offshore category have improved over time. There must of been something I missed that prompted this post by Ken but overall I see a lot of positives.

John,

Thanks for the kudos. I have mutual respect for you as well. Like always, you are very perceptive. No need to share dirty laundry on this forum.

Over the years, I have learned to become a softer and kinder Shrink. I will give you a holler when I return back to Virginia...

Anytime you are dealing with an industry like bookmaking, you're going to see the competition get ruthlessly competitive. There's just wayyyyyyyy too much money to be made (or at least it's perceived that way).

I read somewhere a claim that on average, books spend an average of $300 advertising dollars per new player. If that is remotely close, it's real easy to understand the level of competitiveness.

That doesn't justify the backstabbing between books, but there are a lot of people out there who will do whatever it takes to try to get as big of a piece of the pie as they can.

The same thing happens throughout corporate america every day. Competition is war.
