TIGERS CORNER: Bonderman gets extra day of rest

Jeremy Bonderman said it's nothing to be concerned about. Manager Alan Trammell agreed.
ON DECK: DIAMONDBACKS
Series: Tigers vs. Arizona for three games, tonight through Sunday.
Pitching: Tonight -- RH Jeremy Bonderman (5-2, 3.42 ERA) vs. RH Brandon Webb (5-0, 3.48); Saturday -- LH Nate Robertson (1-3, 3.23) vs. LH Shawn Estes (4-3, 3.83); Sunday -- RH Jason Johnson (2-3, 3.93) vs. RH Javier Vazquez (4-3, 4.03).
But whether it's a cause for concern or not, Bonderman skipped his scheduled start Thursday because of what the Tigers are calling "a dead arm." He is expected to pitch tonight against the Diamondbacks.
Left-hander Mike Maroth started Thursday's game and was the losing pitcher in a 6-2 Tampa Bay victory.
"My arm felt a little dead, and I told them about it," Bonderman said Thursday. "They decided last night to switch to Mike. There's no soreness. Actually, my arm feels better today."
Trammell said the switch was "easy to do" because Maroth pitched on his normal four days' rest Thursday.
"Because of the off-day this week, we were able to juggle the two pitchers," Trammell said. "Jeremy's arm just wasn't normal, so this was the smart thing."
Bonderman told the Tigers about the lack of life in his right arm when he had his normal day of throwing between starts Tuesday.
"I didn't want him to have to answer a bunch of questions for a couple of days," Trammell said of not making the Bonderman situation public earlier. "It's today, and it's over."
Trammell was asked if this was the first time Bonderman has had a dead arm.
"No question, he's had it before," Trammell said. "Every one of our pitchers have had it. They're not going to tell you about it. I would say you're not going to get that kind of information for the most part."
Trammell said the switch had nothing to do with the fact that the Diamondbacks tonight are starting right-hander Brandon Webb, who is 5-0 with a 3.48 ERA.
