...........that and his outstanding defense, and presence in the clubhouse.

So much so that he was named CAPTAIN for the defending World Champion Red Sox ballclub.

You're right. I wonder how highly those 2 were rated as prospects at the time.....

Allready regarded as a TOP FIVE worst trade of all-time............it could become even higher in the next few years.

a couple really bad onesI can think of;

phillies trade ryne sandberg to cubs for ivan dejesus. ( yes, that really happened)

red sox trade jeff bagwell to astros for larry anderson. astros didnt even want bagwell. red sox would not part with pitcher prospect kevin morton and suggested bagwell instead to the astros. bagwell was the double A third baseman. red sox had wade boggs in majors and scott cooper at third in AAA. red sox were eager to move somebody they didnt figure they would miss. :ohno:

Cleveland stole Kenny Lofton from Houston...bALTIMORE WAS INVOLVED IN TWO HORRENDOUS TRADES

Eddie Murray to Los Angeles for Brian Holton , Juan Bell and Ken Howell

Then trading for Glenn Davis, sending Houston Steve Finley , Pete Harnish and Curt Schilling..I repeat , GLENN DAVIS, for Curt Schilling, Pete Harnisch and Steve Finley !!!

Best player in my opinion wears a St Louis Cardinals uniform.....and yeah that Glenn Davis deal was rough....he played like a month for them before getting hurt if I recall. Another bad deal was Bagwell for Larry Anderson back in 1990 but Anderson did help Boston get into the playoffs that year same thing with Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz back in 1987
