I haven't put mine together, just thought I'd start the thread. If you could pick anyone playing currently in the MLB to form a team, who would it be? My rules are that they must play their current position. Now take into account, you don't just want to get the top 9 players. I mean build a real team. Take into account defense, offense, speed, clutch hitting. Should be interesting to see some of the combos we can come up with. I'll be back with mine sometime tomorrow probably. Interested to see what everyone else comes up with.

BTW, Im gonna go ahead and make it a 25 man roster. Use whoever you like. No DH. This is the team you would want to represent you to take on all comers say next season. Not a long term deal. A one season Dream Team. What would your 25 man roster look like? Don't forget Utility Men, PH, and your Staff. 5 starters and a pen.

This would be my 25 man roster. Not to build stats, but to win games.

Starting lineup

1. Brian Roberts (2b)
2. Carlos Beltran (CF)
3. Albert Pujols (1b)
4. Manny Ramirez (LF)
5. Miguel Tejada (SS)
6. Bobby Abreu (RF)
7. Alex Rodriguez (3B)
8. Jason Varitek (C)

Rotation

Pedro Martinez
Roger Clemens
Johan Santana
Mark Prior
Jake Peavy

Pen

Randy Johnson
John Smoltz
Eric Gagne
Mariano Rivera
Billy Wagner

Closer

Franky Rodriguez

Bench

Scott Podsednik (Pinch runner, and defensive replacement for Manny)
Ichiro Suzuki (when contact is necessary)
Scott Rolen (defensive replacement for ARod)
Ivan Rodriguez (guess you need a backup catcher)
Vlad Guerrero (just too good to leave off)

Yes, I'm just bored. Just wondered what would be the best possible team to assemble to take on all comers. I know by taking up all these great players, there would be no competition left, but it was just a hypothetical nonsense type thing.

I would think that TIM WAKEFIELD would have to be on anybodys consensus ALL-STAR team.

He has never even made a all-star game from one league, but you think he should make it when you combine both leagues?

VARITEK would be very hard to leave off anybodys ALL-STAR team!

In fact, he would be one of my personal most sought after players in developing a WINNING team.

For purely catching ability and handling of pitchers, you have to take best defensive catcher in the league, Mike Matheny.

once again showing your lack of knowledge Nor......

if I think Wakefield has been the most valuable memebr of the Red Sox, why wouldn't I have him on a team I was building? With that theory, I'd have NO red Sox players...

I didn't say he should be an all star, but the question was about putting a WINNING team together!

Varitek, back up to who?

you won't find anyone outside of boston who would put wakefield on their 25 man roster when they can choose ANYONE in the AL/NL , homer.

Catchers Id take over varitek

Estrada

but i agree, you won't find many people (including red sox fans) to take Wakefield on a team when you can take anyone, but that doesn't make it right....
