LA Angels/LA Dodgers UNDER 8 1/2 (3 units)...Dodgers have a tough assignment today against John Lackey. Funny thing, Dodgers lit up Dontrelle Willis earlier in the week, but in their last 5 games other than that one, they've scored 0,3,2,2,and 1 runs. Angels may be without BOTH Vlad Guerrero
AND Garret Anderson for this one. I'm not gonna read too much into Penny's last 2 starts. His ERA at Dodger Stadium is a tad over 3.00, and he should get back on track against what should be a puny Angels lineup today. They haven't exactly been setting the League on fire with the bats lately, either.
Minnesota -1 1/2 (+131) (2 units)...two teams going opposite ways at the moment. The Twins look like they are ready for a BIG winning streak, and tonight's starter, Radke has looked magnificent, esp. at the Dome. It doesn't hurt matters that the Brewers are as cold at the plate as Minny is hot. Not good news, for Doug Davis, who walks too many batters and gives up the longball at key times in ballgames. This will be Millwaukee's 9th road game in 9 days, they are obviously tired and ready to get back home.
Pittsburgh -133 (2 units)...This is a good spot, imo, for Oliver Perez to make his 1st start off his shoulder stiffness. Reports are good out of Pirates camp, they will limit Perez to 75-80 pitches. The extra time off has given him time to work on his mechanics, which caused the shoulder stiffness in the first place. Pirates get Jason Jennings, who has struggled with his command all year. Pirates showed some pop in their bats last night, looking for that trend to continue tonight. Col is 2-16 away from Coors, Pirates beginning to win at home now.
Detroit -127 (1 unit)...With all the talk about Bonderman, Nate Robertson's recent performance has gone virtually unnoticed, along with the fact that the Tigers haven't given him much run support. For the D'Backs, Estes has been a pleasant surprise, you never know how a pitcher will be after 2 yrs pitching at Coors (Mike Hampton/Denny Neagle syndrome). Now that Carlos Guilen is back in the lineup, I look for the Tigers to snap out of their mini-hitting slump. And the fact that they aren't facing Brandon Webb tonight sure helps matters.
