Does a number insult anyone's intelligence more than this one?

I saw this number posted at a Las Vegas sports book last night...

Suns to win NBA championship: 5/2

Why not just say off the board? Do they really even hope to get a bet at that number?

Yeah right. They have all four teams listed to win the title. The Suns are the lowest on the board, but at a pathetic price. Of course to protect the margin this book doesn't have odds up on the series, lest someone look a few lines up and see they are at least 7-1 to win the series, if not better.

I had my mom call me from Lake Tahoe last month when she was out there skiing and I had her read me ALL the future odds for the major sports.

The odds were 1/2 of what I could get offshore. Nevada is booking futures for the suckers. If you know anything about future betting you go offshore.

Very true, the lines I saw at a Leroy's book in Reno a few years ago were laughable. I even asked the clerk if they take any action on those #'s, his reply was "oh yeah...lots". I think the worst team in the NFL(AZ/Det, 49ers then) were anywhere from 60 to 100-1, when online you could get much much more.

so i call my "local" before the start of the most recent NFL PLayoffs. i wanna see what he has on odds for the Pats to win the SB. most places had them around +325ish. my local tells me +180! are you kidding me! don't insult my intelligence with that. what most people fail to realize (not the people here - but people in general) is that when you want to take a team to win the SB - you are basically asking what are the odds of them hitting a 3 (or 4) game M/L parlay. the tricky part is you have to project what the M/L will be for those games but in the case of the Pats - it was right around that same +325 anyway.

in the case of my local, i would have gotten almost 11:5 on a "2-teamer" of the Pats -110 (Colts) and -150ish (Steelers) or more in those 2 games that he offered me to win 3. toss in a M/L vs Philly of around -300 and that brings the total payout to +325 as is

as for 5/2 on the Suns - whoever put up that number should be arrested for insulting the intelligence of the people and whoever BET that number shoul dbe laughed at - for if they TRULY thought the Suns would win the Title still, they would be a lot better off betting the Suns on the M/L in (what would be) 3 games in San Antonio - for even if that person goes 2-1 it would still result in a payoff MUCH higher than 5/2 (make the Suns +180 in all 3 games - and if they go 2-1 that would be a +260 payout - and as we all know +260 is more than +250)

then again - as long as there are STUPID people out there who bet the Cubs to win the WS every year (and the books KNOW this - which is why they shade down the price on the Cubs every year) and people who bet on Notre Dame/Lakers/Cowboys/Yankees every game - the books will continue to shade these teams all the time and make an extra buck or two

Dumb and dumber, linesmakers in futures vs. the public.

The linesmakers put up numbers only a moron would bet. Then they STILL get decent action.

I have been asking for some kind of regulation on this matter for years in Las Vegas.

I realize it is "buyer beware", but I have a very hard time with crap like this being allowed.

If the Suns are 5/2 whats the price on the Spurs lol. Fish I believe there are many more things the GCB should regulate than the casinos future book.

You of all people should know that ethics and vegas are never used in the same sentence. Vegas casinos will try to suck their customers dry AT ALL COSTS.

Is what they are doing right? Well no not really.. But look at the slot machines. Most normal human beings would be outraged that you put 20 bucks in a machine and it doesnt give a dime back. Hey that is Vegas.

As the commercial says: What happens in Vegas, stays in vegas. (Including slimeball tactics)

good luck

if nothing was done when the some (many?) hotels went from 3;2 BJ to a "whopping 6:5" i think it was Caeser's that had that on its Marquee (i may be wrong but i know some Vegas hotel put that up) NOTHING will be done on future books odds with ludicrous prices - and really - why should they. Caveat Emptor

if they people are dumb enough to bet futures at terrible price (mostly because they are too stupid to know any better) why should the books change anything?

if i can get away with offering (for example) the Cubs @ 20-1 to win the WS when they should be at least 50-1 but still get people to bet that - why should i be penalized for the stupid public moronic actions?

Well I so have to side with the books on the Cubs WS pricing. Hey the Cubs arent going to win a world series in the next 10 years. By lowering the price, the books are atleast letting Cubs fans think that they have a chance.
