Green Doberman will be playing in the kickoff event, the casino employee's event, tomorrow.

I'm off to get some rest and to be sharp for tomorrow.

Interest in the tournament has skyrocketed in recent years, necessitating a move from its longtime home in downtown Las Vegas to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino just off the world-famous Strip.

This year's main event -- a no-limit Texas Hold 'Em event with a $10,000 buy-in -- is expected to draw at least 4,000 players, up dramatically from the record crowd of 2,576 who participated in the event last year. The Rio's new facility, measuring more than 60,000 square feet, can accommodate up to 6,600 players in the main event.

The 36th annual World Series of Poker begins today with an event for casino industry employees. The first public event -- a no-limit Texas Hold 'Em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in -- begins June 3.

"The World Series of Poker is a sporting event like no other," said Gary Thompson, the tournament's director of communications. "It offers more prize money than any other sanctioned sporting event -- and it gives amateurs the opportunity to compete alongside legends of the game. For a baseball fan, it's like stepping into the batter's box against Roger Clemens and knowing that, if you can hit his fastball, you can walk away with millions of dollars."

The World Series of Poker is owned and operated by Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET - News). ESPN, the tournament's official broadcast partner, will produce and air 26 hours of original programming based on the 36th annual World Series of Poker. The sports network will produce an additional six hours of original programming based on World Series of Poker Circuit events. Coverage is scheduled to begin airing on or about July 19.

Founded 67 years ago, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. owns or manages through various subsidiaries 25 casinos in the United States, primarily under the Harrah's and Horseshoe brand names. Harrah's Entertainment is focused on building loyalty and value with its target customers through a unique combination of great service, excellent products, unsurpassed distribution, operational excellence and technology leadership.

I'll be in the $1,500 starting Friday if I can get in. They stopped pre-registrations, so I'll be there early waiting in line.

Got knocked out on 4th level today.
Finished around 290 of 660 entered.

Guy went all-in before me and had me covered by 100, I go all-in, and the guy behind me who is chip leader calls.

I have KK, all-in has AQ off, and chip leader has QQ.

Sure enough flop comes AQ3. 4 on turn and A on river.

3 of 4 cards to hurt me come out on board.

If I win that I triple up and likely finish in money, I was 66 to 26 to 8 favorite on hand.

But alas, that's poker.

The bad beats in poker never end. Like Fish has said "no bitching about the bad beats", but man oh man.....if you play enough, you've been burnt by some serious BS.

I don't mind losing with my rockets when I get pulled all in, but when the son of a bitch shows his 3 7 off & proceeds to draw trips on the draw, it's enough to make me want to put my head through the wall.

Even in higher dollar tourneys & games....there's always the one lucky moron who pulls this crap.

It's enough to make you consider applying the 2-3% gambling rule to poker hands. NOTHING is safe-especially before the flop.

Well I registered for tomorrow's $1,500 tourney today. I had to wait in two different lines for a total of 3 hours. I'll update whatever I can... and I am playing the big one too... guess I'll see Shrink for that.
