TIP OF THE DAY
Sport: MLB - Baseball
Game: Blue Jays (RL) @ Athletics (RL) on Jun 3 2005 10:05PM
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays
Current Line: 140
Over/Under: 7.5 -115
Reason: Right back to the Blue Jays I go with Roy Halladay taking the
hill who is having another Cy Young type season. Toronto remains over
.500 on the road this season, a surprise to many as is the fact that the
Blue Jays are still very much in the hunt in the American League East.
Oakland is coming back to earth after sweeping Tampa Bay, a team with
the worst road record in the league.
Halladay has been lights out over his last four starts as he is 4-0 with
a 0.55 ERA and he has done it on a very small pitch count. Over those
four starts, he has topped 100 pitches only once and two of those wins
were sub-100 pitch complete games. If not for two starts against
Baltimore, Toronto would be undefeated in his starts. The Blue Jays are
9-0 in his other nine starts, winning all but two of those games by two
or more runs.
Oakland is the worst hitting team in the league and for the A's to have
a chance, they will need a solid pitching performance but that won't be
the case. Seth Etherton is making just his fourth start since 2000 and
the first three this season were hardly anything for the A's to have any
confidence. He allowed at least four runs in each of those starts while
posting a 6.62 ERA in the process.
The Blue Jays not only have the edge in the starters but also in the
bullpen where they have a 3.42 ERA on the road this season from their
relievers. Toronto has been almost unbeatable with Halladay pitching and
the best part is that he isn't throwing 125 pitches per outing so
fatigue is not even close to a factor like it has been in the past. They
win another one big time. Play Toronto -1.5
