TIP OF THE DAY
Sport: MLB - Baseball
Game: Tampa Bay Devil Rays @ Seattle Mariners on Jun 4 2005 10:05PM
Prediction: Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Current Line: -120
Over/Under: 8.5 -110
Reason: Tampa Bay will be going for a second straight road win,
something that has not happened all season long. The Devil Rays took an
easy 6-1 decision on Friday behind a solid pitching performance from
Doug Waechter who came in to relieve an injured Casey Fossum. They now
send their hottest pitcher to the mound and the offense should once
again have a big night.
Scott Kazmir is starting to look like the pitcher Tampa Bay was hoping
for when he was acquired from the Mets last season. He has been rock
solid over his last three starts with each outing better than the
previous one. He is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA during that span and he has
allowed four hits or less in three of his last four starts. He has good
memories in Seattle as he pitched a solid game last season in a 9-0
Tampa Bay win.
Seattle will look to Joel Pineiro to stop the bleeding but that isn't
going to happen. He has been awful this season, allowing four earned
runs or more in six of his eight starts. He has given up six runs or
more in three of his last four starts, posting an 8.71 ERA over those
four games. Most of his outings have been on the road this season but he
has an 8.44 ERA at home this season so he sharing the wealth of his poor
performances.
Pineiro was rocked in his only start against Tampa Bay in his last
outing, allowing seven runs in just 4.2 innings and even though Seattle
got the win, it was not Kazmir he went up against. The Devil Rays are
hitting 28 points higher on offense and Seattle has struggled this
season against lefties with a .241 average. The Mariners are only 4-11
on the season when facing a left handed starter and it should only get
worse after Saturday. Play Tampa Bay
