AUSTIN -- Miami of Ohio set an NCAA Regional record for runs and had a record-tying 33 hits in a 35-8 rout to eliminate Quinnipiac from the Austin regional.
Both teams combined to set an NCAA Regional record for total hits (50), at-bats (101), runs (43) and total bases (80). The combined seven triples also tied an NCAA single-game record.
Brandon Hillier and Brian Canada each had five hits and four RBI. Paul Frietch hit a two-run homer and Will Reynolds added a three-run home run for Miami (45-17).
All 16 batters scored for Miami and all but one had at least one hit. Miami scored 12 of its runs in the ninth.
Miami's Matt Long (1-1) pitched five innings of relief, allowing four runs on eight hits.
Ryan Rizzo and Brien McGee had three hits for Quinnipiac (26-24).
Chris Wakefield (6-2) lasted just two innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits.
Miami will face the loser of Texas-Arkansas on Sunday.
