LSU is NOT a garbage team. I'm curious how garbage teams get to host their own regionals???? This is by far the game that stands out the most on this card, hands down. They were in the running for the SEC title this year with Tennessee and Florida down to the final weekend. They are on a whole nother level than NW State. Sure, they aren't playing typical powerhouse LSU baseball and crushing everyone they play, but they still have won big games when they had to. They took 2 out of 3 from regional host Tennesee, and they took 2 out of 3 from regional host Ole Miss.

They are playing at home at Alex Box stadium where they typically lead the country every year in attendace with 7,000+ per game. Their backs are against the wall, they have about 6 National Titles under thier belt as a program, and they are in an elimination game against Northwestern State.

Like I said college baseball is a broken record. LSU will win this and get back into champsionship position against Rice. They have the tradition post season experience, home field advanatage, huge huge talent edge, etc.

This game is a no brainer. LSU wins this game 99 out of 100 times. Pinnacle has them at -300. I got them at betonsports.com for -260.

the guy must get "lock jaw" after the field is announced for this guy gives more blow jobs than Jenna Jameson to get as many UNWORTHY SEC teams into the field of 64 than anyone i know. LS-who gets home games for the NCAA regionals are all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and the NCAA KNOWS LS-what fans will fill the place and therefore LS-what can submit a higher hosting bid - and get it. any coincidence the "Paper Tigers" NEVER travel? NO! and Smoke Laval might be one of the biggest idiots out there - even LS-what fans hate him

seemingly EVERY YEAR LS-what is overrated and this year is NO different

LS-what might win this game - but they aren't long for this tourney

I'm with you on this one, Box. I was already looking long and hard at the LSU game, and your confirmation clinched it for me.

Good luck today.

Quick LSU Facts:

2005 SEC West Champion
LSU was 13-9 vs. top 25 teams this year
LSU has hosted their own regional at Alex Box Field for 16 STRAIGHT YEARS.

They took a tough first round loss to arguably the best #2 seed in the country, Rice. Rice is a perennial powerhouse that won the National title 2 years back.

Now LSU gets to play Northwestern State on their home field to try to advance to the championship to play back against Rice. 8,000 fans should be on hand when most college games average around 3,000 fans. The deeper you go into Northwestern State's rotation, the more they get exposed, and LSU suffers very little dropoff.

Smoke Lavall has not commited to a starting pitcher for the NORTHWESTERN game yet. It will be either lefty soph Clay Derks, or Lane Mystapy. If I was putting money on the game I would want Derks on the hill. Even though Mystapy is supposedly the ace of the Tigers he has been in a serious slump of
late.

If Mystapy starts game 2 against Rice, I would suggest a huge play on the Rice owls tonight. I dont care if the game is at ALEX BOX stadium or not. Rice is the better team period.
Good luck everyone.

Northwestern lost game one to Rice on Friday. Yesterday they beat Marist University 4-3 or 5-4.

Man, if I had a nickel for everytime I had this conversation I wouldn't need to bet on sports.

People on the west coast just have no idea how hard the SEC is from top to bottom. I think West Coast teams, in general, get screwed over because they shouldnt all have to play each other and knock each other off. There were also 2 more teams I felt got snubbed from regionals on the west coast. I'd love to see 4 more west coast teams get in, and start getting rid of these smaller schools that have no chance (like Northwestern State vs LSU today)
LSU wins this game today 99 out of 100 times.

The SEC gets the respect it gets from top-to-bottom and as many regional bids as it gets because it really is that good. Baseballamerica, etc etc don't rank all of these and the SEC isnt regarded as the best conference in the country by far just for the hell of it. There's a reason.

Sure, former LSU skipper Skip Bertman is the chair of the board, and that has gotten more SEC teams in then the past, but those 8, 9 ranked SEC teams the past 3 years have proven that they belong to be in by performing the way they have. They have gotten into tournaments and regionals as 3 seeds, and more times than not end up in the championship over 2 seeds from the ACC or other conferences like the Sun Belt.

In no other conference can the number 8 seed in the conference tournament (Mississippi State) go on to play for the tournament title with a clean sweep through the tournament. Thats just how good the conference is. It was Skip Bertman that got the 8 SEC teams in 3 years ago, but ever since then the decision has been easy considering how well they perform in regionals.

Make no mistake about it, do not downgrade this LSU team. Like I said, they arent as good as they have been in the past, but to win the SEC West is NOT easy no matter how you slice it. They are one of the most proflific postseason teams in NCAA history, and on that alone I would bet them in this game, because in college baseball those traditions hold true every single year. Throw in the fact that they are just flat-out the better team, and they are playing at home in front of 8,000 fans, and NW State is probably 3 or 4 deep into their rotation, and this is a near-lock.
Every single year these small schools can't compete with the larger schools.
LSU deserved a regional host this year. Anyone who goes 13-9 against the top 25, and wins the SEC West will get a regional host.

Rice is not the better team period, and I am not touching tonights game regardless of the line.

Lane Mestepey is one of the nastiest pitchers in college baseball, he was a freshman all american, he has a great 12-6 curveball when I was a senior he was a freshman. He is a stud, and he is a big game pitcher. I'm comfortable with either starter.

Lock of the millenium #2

10****************Cal State Fullerton -263

Doesn't get any easier than this one either. If you like to lay -260 on the Yankees, you sure as hell might want to check this game out. Cal State won the National Title last year, they are the favorite to win it this year, they are at home, and they lost to a TOUGH Arizona team that I thought would win yesterday but I couldn't pull the trigger just because they were playing CSF. Thats how good this team is, if Arizona was playing anybody else I would have bet them. Cal State does not lose this game to Missouri today, period.

Make no mistake about it. LSU will dominate Northwestern today no matter who starts for the Tigers.

The one play I am looking forward too, is if Mestapy starts game 2 against Rice. LSU will be favored in game 2. I think Rice will own LSU tonight if Mestapy starts
insteed of Clay Dirks. Mestapy was not had a quality start in over a month. Rice will win tonight at ALEXBOX if Mestapy starts.

Might be true, but Mestepey is a big game pitcher. He has pitched in big games for the Tigers over the years and came through. I know he had arm problems earlier this year, he had arm problems as a sophomore, and had season ending surgery. I wonder if thats why he has been slumping. He was rated as the number 1 lefty prospect in the naton as a freshman. I'm curious to see the line, I really can see both teams winning. I'm probably going to lay off of it regardless of who pitches.

I agree for the NORTHWESTERN game. It does not matter who starts. But in the Rice game if Mestepey starts LSU will lose. Mestepey was a great pitcher as a freshman. This season in his last 8 starts he has been awfull with a capital A. I live 15 miles from ALEXBOX stadium and have seen Mestapey in person at least 25 times. I may even go to the game tonight if I can find someone to drag to the game with me. I like your Northwestern pick. It will be a winner. I just hope they start Dirks today so I can get in on some serious money tonight on the Rice game.

I understand what youre saying, Chop. I'm saying it's really tough to pull the trigger against LSU at home in postseason situations regardless of who they are playing. They have a mystique about them, that I'm sure youre fully aware of seeing their games. If they are favored, I am agreeing it's great value, but I am just saying I am laying off of it because it's a dangerous bet. Thats all Im saying.

I really cannot believe these lines are so low. I agree Box on LSU. While LSU may not be a great team this year they are still good and did win the SEC West and were actually close to winning the SEC. LSU is at home with rabid fans. LSU is playing a girls schools. There should be some sort of runline attached (i.e. -4 runs). Getting this with no runline at -260 is a joke.

My best play is Cal State Fullerton today though. This Cal State team will win today and I believe has a good shot at knocking Arizona off twice. I love them today at home.

Good Luck! :toast:
