revenge is on....2 straight blowouts in STL. Cardinals well on their way to yet another playoff birth while boston slips up again. Love those great fans giving Grudz a standing ovation for his stolen base after being beaned by Mantei. Cards make Mantei pay for his 2 hits batters by hanging 2 ERs on him as well. Boston bullpen ....terrible.

A sweep a fluke?

Getting swept in the World Series and then winning 2 games in the regular season is revenge? :icon_conf

Who's to say it wasn't a fluke? The Yankees were three outs away from sweeping the Red Sox, and everyone would have talked about how bad they were and how they got dominated. Instead, the Red Sox turned things around and "swept" the next four games. Baseball is all about streaks and momentum, and is a game of inches. Who's to say the WS wouldn't have turned out differently if the Cardinals had gotten a few breaks and won Game 1? Or if Sosa wouldn't have screwed them out of home field advantage? I don't know who would have won more series if they would have played the WS 100 times. But I believe that the Red Sox would not have swept very many.

"If, if, if..."

The Red Sox didn't get swept. The Cardinals did get swept.

What if Colorado could win road games...they could be a contender. There are a lot of "if's" that don't really mean much because they didn't/don't happen. The facts and games have already been played. There is very little "fluke" when your team is swept.

I agree that it is a game of momentum, but great teams rise to the occassion. St. Louis rolled over.

I'm not saying the Cards should have won, or that they deserved to. Nothing like that. I'm just saying that for those who say they didn't belong, that's ridiculous to say. Like I said, if Rivera takes care of business, then the Red Sox are simply a footnote, and a "thanks for coming, drive safely." That being said, they were a worthy champion, and shut down the Cardinals bats. Life goes on.

Yea...but like I was trying to point out, that is a big "if". It didn't happen.

I am not knocking St. Louis because they were a great team. It just wasn't in the cards last year. I was surprised they were swept.

I just don't like the focus being taken away from how great Boston was (and I am not a Boston or NY Yankee fan...I am 100% National League). Boston won 8 straight games against the Yankees and Cardinals. That was AMAZING.

They got hot, and they were amazing. I was crushed. Not only am I a lifelong Cardinals fan, I also had a grand on them at 13-2, and did not hedge one penny. It still hurts.

That always throws salt in the wounds when your team loses...try being a Clipper fan! :toast:

It clearly wasn't a fluke. All you needed to do was look at the pitching staffs of each time last year. If you do that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that it was no fluke. Cardinals with a good enough rotation for regular season baseball but not good enough in postseason big time baseball.

Solid pitching and timely hitting got it done all year. Games 1 and 3 could have gone either way. Getting beat wasn't a fluke, but getting swept was.

Perfect analysis Illini! How embarassing though to lose to a team who couldn't win a title for close to a century! Makes you kind of believe in the Apocalypse , doesn't it?:smoker2:

Slighlty better lineup, way better starting pitching and about equal bullpens equals easy win for Boston unfortunately, and I can't stand them. Cardinals are one of my alternative teams I like to root for to do well when not playing the upstart Royals.

Every guy but Matheny was at .300 or within 5 points of .300. I would never admit that Boston had a better lineup, cause I don't think they did.
